I bought a 6.5 husky from a member on the board. Spent 3 hours getting the paint and bull$hit off the stock and another hour buffing it up. 2 hours on the bolt etc for polishing and about 2 hours to reblue. Hear are the results thus far.

I have found a process were you preheat the metal to 150F and then "cold blue" it. I have had great results so far but you must glass bead the metal before treating, There is also finishing process that has to be done with a varnish. So yes it is cold blued but not the standard process.

Still looks good. Pity cold blue doesn't wear well.....

Yes it is not as good as hot but I have found that by increasing the amount of phosphourus acid it helps alot. It makes it impossible to get a "blue" finish but the corrosion protection is far superior to off the shelf cold blues. It is also critical to heat the part because it does really change the outcome. I can not rub the finish off no matter how hard I try unlike most cold finishes. I am currently doing a salt spray test with my "new improved" method to see how it compares with regular hot blueing. I know its not as good and its black only but
I think I am getting close.
