I'm on the hunt for a TC Icon weather shield in .308, someone on another forum lead me to Prophet River where they carry one with the wood stock. It seems to be a tough rifle to come across here in Canada. Anyone know where to pick one of these up? I'm new to the whole firearm world and am constantly finding new online stores. It seems weird that its a rare gun when the Venture is fairly common. Does anyone have any idea why these aren't commonplace in gun stores? (or are they and I just haven't been to enough of them). Has anyone gotten their hands on one and had a chance to mess around with one. I read a lot of great reviews on it.

I had one in 30TC...it was likely the most accurate factory rifle I've ever owned. On the downside, it was very heavy.

Holy I think you might be right, it's not on their site anymore. Damn I guess it has been 4 months since I was looking at it while waiting for my PAL. I was really hoping to make that one my first rifle. Maybe I'll have to pounce on the one on prophet river since they're a disappearing now. I'll maybe make some calls in the new year to some local stores. Anyone have any idea why they discontinued it. I know they had the recalls in the summer, I wonder if that had something to do with it

That was the kind of stuff I kept hearing about it, just an out of the box monster, well built, integral weaver rail. Apparently the trigger is beautiful too. A lot of gun for the money apparently. I did a ton of reading on lots of rifles but what people had to say about their icons was the highest honest sounding praise I could find on a gun less than two grand

if you do find one you want just remember that it will be part of the recall and will most likely need warranty work done to it..........

Hmm seems like finding this gun has turned into my new project, I'll keep you posted on what I can snuff out. I hear the hunt is the best part of the experience, after months of research the tracking stage begins.

Yup, the Icon is discontinued.
Mine will be on the way for the recall tomorrow (replace trigger/safety).
This is the second return for this gun and it could us a third if I was really fussy...
Some guns won't feed from the magazine, I sent mine in and it's OK at best. One mag works and one doesn't unless you hold it in. This is after sending it in.
On the plus side, the stock (Hogue) is really good and the trigger is excellent, the bolt is smooth and its more accurate than me (I can get an inch with any cheapo ammo).
I love the gun and really hope this recall doesn't screw up the trigger.
I'd like to know if anyone has had feeding issues in the Venture- basically the same gun but with a round receiver.

I just took on trade a brand new "unfired" T/C Icon Weathershield .308 w/ 2 mags I might consider selling. From the reviews I read they are very well built guns, short bolt lifts, smooth actions, bedding blocks, 5r rifling, hogue stocks. Excited to handle this gun, very few are actually around.

Ya... its hard to turn down the blued and wood model, such a beautiful walnut stock, don't think I've seen a nicer wood stock on a gun. I would just be so afraid of hauling it through the bush and getting it scratched. Not that I wouldn't scratch the weathershield model, but I wouldn't be nearly as broken hearted. mmmm that walnut tho...

A gun is a tool, just like a vehicle they get some wear and tear with use. The one on Prophet's site may be in Ultrawood, which is a laminate, I have one in .243 which I quite like - accurate and good looking... The finish should hold up well as mine has on the 'wet' coast. A suggestion would be to fill the pores exposed by the checkering process with a quality oil finishing product. I use Schaftol on my riflestocks, but I think there's lots of different brands out there. The rest of the stock has a durable sealed finish on it. Personally I prefer a heavy barrel as it improves accuracy and helps me hold on target for a follow up shot if required, the TC has it.
The Icon was the rifle I settled on when I was in the market for a mild caliber shooter. They boasted many innovations on their website that impressed me, most importantly the accuracy guarantee. It's my opinion that all modern rifles should come with one, unfortunately one has to get more into the premium manufacturers to get that.
