Hi all.-

Any feedbacks on Thompson Center Ion rifle?

For quality, finish, accuracy, retail price?

Icon? Nice rifles, well made, were priced too high for the market at the time and were discontinued. New condition maybe $800 today?

I had one in 30-06. Shot very well and was well built. Pretty much a .75 MOA rifle with my handloads. There are some wood ones with extremely nice wood if you can ever find one of those. I had the Synthetic (I think it was a hogue stock) stainless that had a Cerakote finish. If I could find a wood blues one in the right caliber I’d probably snatch one up again.

Well built rifles. Good trigger. Nice bluing. Usually very accurate
I have a nice one in 270 Winchester with a 24” barrel.

I bought 3 short action models within the first year or so they were issued... because I was just getting into “builds” and they have a lot of good features. All were 308 Wins and shot about 3/4 MOA out of the box. I did rebarrels on two and used one as my main hunting rifle for a few years. Eventually sold all of them when I decided to do builds on aftermarket actions. I suspect they rank in quality among the top of the mid priced factory offerings of the day.
I broke a small chunk of wood off the back of the tang when bedding the walnut stocked model ... and contacted TC to fess up and ask to to purchase another —- they said the lifetime warranty covered everything and sent me replacement (albeit a laminated wood model) free of charge.

I had a wood stocked 7mm and a synthetic 22-250. I only have the 22-250 left now. I liked them both, they are well built and accurate. Triggers could have been a little better but that’s about my only complaint. One thing to keep in mind, if you buy a detachable mag model, it could be very difficult to find a spare one. Oh yeah, and it was nice to not have to buy bases when mounting a scope.
