I would have thought these guns would be bigger news. They appear to be a better-built 10/22, but almost zero mention of them here on CGN. If you have one, I'd love to hear how it shoots, what the trigger is like, reliability, accuracy, etc.

Thanks!

I almost bought one but there were 3 things that really turned me off of them when handled at my local bass pro shop ... Number one, the price, they're about $550 Canadian which is almost $100 more than a 10/22 deluxe. Second, the barrel is not blued and have seen reviews online that it scuffs and rusts easily. Third, I HATE polymer stocks ... Anyway just my two cents

The Magpul stock, machined receiver rail and robust peep site are worth the extra $100 IMO, but if you hate polymer stocks, price would be irrelevant, no?

Alright..I'll bump this sleepy, barely noticed thread to say that I finally got to handle one of these guns today. Not shoot it..just fondle one in Bass Pro. Observations;

1. smaller/lighter than expected..as in WAY lighter
2. barrel diameter looks smaller than the photos suggest
3. iron sights are very likeable :) (seriously)
4. metal finish on the receiver looks nice, as does the charging handle. Barrel metal almost looks like the black parkerizing on Remington 870 Police shotguns (almost looks like flat black spray paint)
5. shoulders nicely, MagPul stock (while I like it/fits nicely) might be one of the cheapest-feeling synthetic stocks I've ever held. So flimsy that you could grab the butt end and physically twist it. I didn't force it..I didn't need to. Felt some flex when I grabbed it and wanted to see how much (meaning, how little) force it would take to move it. "very little" is the answer.

Would I like one? Yes I would, I think it would be a great..light hiking gun and might even be fun in a gopher patch. Did I buy? Nope, but considering.

Biggest negative~price is $549 ($620.37 here in Ontario after getting bucket hooped) and in holding it...I just didn't get a $600+ vibe. lol

I don’t find the price tag to be too shocking considering what a new 10/22 costs. The MagPul stock is ok and superior to the OEM Ruger offering. The machining, and fit/finish is much nicer than a standard 10/22 and I don’t mind paying a little more for that. They’ll go on sale a few times a year and I’ll probably pick one up then. I like the 10/22 platform and these are priced right in the middle between basic and higher performance versions closing in on 1k or more. Nonetheless, they are a nicer option IMO,

Hey Patrick~yeah, don't disagree with any of that. I've owned 1 Ruger 10/22, and have shot maybe 5-6 others over the years. Mine was a lemon out of the gate, and none I've tried since have ever left me wanting another one. However, I could honestly see owning one of these...just not at that price. @ maybe $400 I would have felt allot of temptation yesterday...but no question, it looks/feels better built than the 10/22s I've run into over the years. The molded-in, plastic sling swivel studs might be the exception.

I've also heard from a couple reviews that the magazines are difficult to load apparently. It has some type of proprietary system that has a last-shot bolt open that might explain the magazine issues. They end up using regular 10/22 mags in them.

That's a really low grade Magpul stock... that's negative $$$ there lol.

Yep! The geometry is very good...it fits right, just not really a good endorsement of the MagPul brand. lol It's cheaper-feeling than the one on my Marlin 795 (which was $125 new, $100 after the $25 mail in rebate). It's also what makes the gun feel pretty cheap, I think for an extra $5, they could have made the stock a little thicker-walled, and added metal sling swivel studs. The design doesn't appear to allow the barrel to free float, and there is tons of lateral flex in the stock where the barrel channel is. I've read it shoots very well in spite of these issues...so I am still interested. :)

TC has a weird history with pricing their rimfires out of the market, they use to make a really nice semi 22 (R-55) but it was way too expensive. Centerfire they price OK but really cheap out in some areas of manufacture.
If it's the same footprint as the 10/22, why not just throw it in a Hunter stock...at least they are solid and slightly adjustable, and might help justify the price.

^nice looking set-up!

And I agree with everything you said. I do like that the T/CR22 is as light as it is...but at the expense of having a decent stock? Not sure. If the price reflected how crappy the stock was, I might not even mention it. I guess I stand by what I said before~@ $400...I'd be talking myslelf out of one. At over $600...I'd have to talk myself INTO one, and probably wouldn't succeed. lol

Just want to share my opinion on TCR22...
Have put approx. 2K rd. through it (CCI Blazer and Standard)...so have some experience.
Love it more than any 10/22 including high end ones !
Positives:
Bolt last rd. stop works great and magazine is easy to load just remember to press the Tab on it for the first round. (also you can use TCR22 mag in 10/22 if you need to)
Open Sights are the best I`ve ever used on .22, even better than Williams Ace in The Hole I have on 10/22.
After light polishing of the hummer got 3.5 Lb trigger and now feels as BX trigger on 10/22
Stock is slightly flimsy and light but geometry is perfect and accuracy is not suffering ( 10rd in 1" at 50 yards with CCI Standard is a norm)
Built quality is very high and way better than 10/22 (with exception at the bottom) , 100% reliable with factory or 10/22 mags, lightweight, more accurate in stock form than 10/22.
Negatives:
Not stainless but if you oiling the barrel regularly not a big problem.
Barrel is not interchangeable with 10/22 barrels. Barrel V block will not hold on 10/22 barrel in TCR22 receiver, that is Big negative !
And the last negative: Barrel sits too loose in the receiver (more than in any 10/22 I`ve seen), I have to use shimming to get rid of it !
If Thompson Center will improve at least the last negative, will buy again and recommend to everyone !

Ive only read the writeup in the rimfire magazine so have no experince but id love to see a custom shop ruger vs the tc vs the begera bxr in a full out sxsxs shootout. Im thinking about ordering the bergera myself but im holding off for the fact i want to see if theyll release a wood stocked bolt action

Cabelas just had a one day sale for these for $350 Canadian (200 bucks off) and I missed it by a day! Still bought one though.
