Got a new Thompson Center Venture with camo stock for Christmas.
It is chambered in 204 Ruger.
It came with a scope for $649 + tax. I upgraded the scope to a Vortex Diamondback 3-9 x 40 for a few more dollars.

Took it to the range today for the first time.
Luckily, the scope mounting was almost bang on and it only took 4 shots to line it up.

I only fired 14 shots in total of Federal Sierra Blitzkings at 39 Grain.

Shown below is 2 targets at 100 meters, both had 3 shots each (even the second one).
It could likely do better, but I didn't have the time or ammo.

It has a very smooth short throw action, nice polymer 3 shot magazine that locks up tight and a factory set 3.5 lb trigger that is easily adjustable.
I found the trigger was excellent and didn't adjust it.

I picked it up at Better Buy Sports in Moncton and would give it a 10 out of 10 for a somewhat economy gun.

Wow, I saw these on sale, as is most Thompson stuff right now. I thought about picking one up, but there wasn't much about them for reviews. That looks good enough for me. I'm sold.
 
That's pretty nice looking man, I've seen the ventures before but only ever in black synthetic with the grey grips. They wernt bad looking but not as nice as that. Cool rifle.
 
I got one, in 7mm-08,
and my review is a bit different, i'm not that satisfied.
Of course, i sold it after try.
I will not talk about the cheap stock,
Accuracy wise, it was okay.
Trigger is not easily ajustable at all. the adjusting screw are packed with lock-tite and plugged.

The ejector pin was getting stuck in his hole, once in a while, very annoying.

eclipse71, if you are comparing a tc venture to a sako, of course you are going to be disappointed, you are comparing apples to oranges. The sako is in a completely different league.

How much locking lug on the TC ? = 3
how much locking lug on the Sako ? = 3
Different, Yes, but they use that argue ( 60 degree ) bolt lift Like .......


But i do agree with you, its not the same leage.
I have some Stevens, Savage, Remmy, Win, Tikka, sako.
But sold both TC ( prohunter and venture ).
theres reasons, maybe my expectation are different then someone else, But if we were all the same, there were no discussion and getting bored pretty fast.
As example, i just bought a Savage Edge, and regardless of the price, i'm more satisfied from my Edge then i was from the TC.
 
Nice rifle for ya "redeye". These are a good outta the box accurate rifle.
Would make a decent 1st rifle for newbie shooters! I was looking at one in .270 myself but am saving up for an Icon. The Icon would be one that is a little closer to compare a Sako to, but still not the same "league" imo.

I have one in 7mm mag. I've had it to the range and accuracy was more than adequate. With a bit more tweaking it should perform very well. It has been on one hunting outing with me so little to say there.

Overall it is a big step up from Stevens and since I've owned Sakos there is no point even putting them in the same sentence. Fit and finish is better than the savages ( comparable models)and the stock is better as well. Price wise its bang on on what it is worth. My biggest plus for this gun is it loads and cycles rounds very smoothly. Far better than some of my higher priced 700's. My biggest beef is that the detachable magazine is flimsy. Also; the trigger does not really adjust much but mine was fine out of the box.


I'll be keeping mine as IMHO it makes a good hunting rig for stand or blind hunting. It's too heavy for carry all day hunting.
