Hello everyone,
I have an issue with the silver barrel finish on my muzzle loader, it’s has begun to peel and is starting to bother me as I am concerned the failed finish could allow for corrosion to start.
Anyone ever found anything to repair the finish or should I remove it completely and blue the barrel?
Not an expensive gun to experiment on but was hoping someone out here may have already did some experiments and could advise what may or may not work.
Cheers

Its likely nickel plating. Unless it is disturbing you, I would just oil it or apply some wax and carry on. Another option is to use guncoat or armacoat type product that sprays on and bake to cure without having to strip it.

Bluing would be a last resort for me on a muzzleloader.

Thanks, it isn’t an issue but it bothers the heck out of me! I know it shouldn’t but I am broken according to my wife!
I will look up those two products and see what I can figure out. I did get a reply from Thompson saying it was prob cerakoted and the only option is to replace the barrel.

So I found a local coating provider in London that does Cerakote and for $140 they will remove the old finish and apply a new coat of cerakote….didn’t think that it would be that inexpensive
