OK, I know this is a long shot, and sorry if this is in the wrong forum....but.....What are the chances of the RCMP (i know slim) of relooking at the Thompson M1? Auto-Ordnance makes them in a semi only, with a few different barrels.

I would give my left nut for one. I know its a variant, and it makes it just a dream, but we can dream right? Do you think if a guy coughed up the money for one, and had A-O ship it to the RCMP, they would even freaking look at it?

•The firearm of the design commonly known as the Thompson submachine gun, and any variant or modified version of it, including the: 1.Thompson Model 1921;
2.Thompson Model 1927;
3.Thompson Model 1928;
4.Thompson Model M1;
5.Auto-Ordnance M27A-1;
6.Auto-Ordnance M27A-1 Deluxe;
7.Auto-Ordnance M1927A-3;
8.Auto-Ordnance M1927A-5;
9.Auto-Ordnance Thompson M1;
10.Commando Arms Mk I;
11.Commando Arms Mk II;
12.Commando Arms Mk III;
13.Commando Arms Mk 9; and,
14.Commando Arms Mk 45.

The RCMP can relook at this until the cows come home. They didn't prohibit the Thompson in all its variants. The gov't did through legislation.

FULL-AUTO FEAR, FAKERY & FOOFERAW

Well, they made you register one in 1934 and people didn't line up to get permits to rob banks with the things.

Then they had a war in which another million Tommies were made, plus Gawd knows how many Brens and about 3 million Brownings. Some of those got into circulation, but nobody lined up to get permits to rob banks with those ones, either.

Then the Liberals decided that they had to be more sensitive and protecting of the public, so they "tightened up" on the full-auto regulations and, at the same time, reduced the penalties for the violent criminals who might want to use them to rob banks. Nobody bit. No massacres. No spates of machine-gun-armed criminals robbing banks with Ma Deuce or Bob the Bofors.

Obviously these things MUST be a Public Menace. Just think of what COULD happen. So they tightened up again. "If it saves just one child!!" Insert your own preferred paranoid platitude here. Only machine-gun deaths from LEGAL machine-guns were of innocent civilians on their way home for Christmas.

So Avril Phaedra Campbell, a homophobic Lieberal in Con-girl clothing, tightened up yet again.

And STILL there are no parades of wanna-be bank-robbers, filling up the police stations to get permits to rob banks, off their neighbours and so forth.

EIGHTY YEARS of increasing restrictions and still NO wave of violent machine-gun crime. It's really quite disappointing when you think of it.

EVERY single incident of crime in which a machine-gun was used was ILLEGAL because nobody got their permit to transport and use the thing to commit the crime. They were all CRIMINAL acts. Except for the house-painters and a handful of others, all killed or wounded by LEGAL use of machine-guns in the hands of the Government, no matter how irresponsible the use.

In order to make this country SAFER from the MENACE of automatic firearms, what should be done is twofold: (a) first, the Government will give up all of its full-autos, these being the ones which actually kill and wound Canadians, and (b) target shooters and collectors will be allowed to take theirs out shooting once again and even to purchase new imports, being that there are NO incidents of violent crime arising from the use of these firearms over a period of 81 years.

THEN we will all be MUCH SAFER.

And if the Criminals ever start using the things, we can get the Government to put them in jail. THAT's why we have LAWS in the first place: to control the CRIMINALS

Instead, the Criminals get Government-paid lawyers while the Government makes paper-crime Criminals out of non-violent Citizens.

Gotta get those statistics up SOMEHOW.

Yes, it's the old liberal game of shooting the sheep dogs with the hope of scaring away the wolves and trying to impress and intimidate the sheep in the process. AFAIK, no legally owned and registered FA or CA firearm has been used in the commission of a crime, yet those that are in the hands of bona-fide owners are prohibited from being transported to a range for firing and none, other than those who are "grandfathered" in the system, can own either a FA or CA firearm.

I well remember a friend and I going down to the Nepean Police station back in the 1991/92 era to submit our FA/CA firearms for scrutiny by the RCMP forensics lab (a 6 month process) in the aftermath of the Conservative anti-gun legislation. I asked the nice lady at the desk if any of the criminals had been through to put theirs for the same process. What could she say? The fact is that the criminals do not participate in any of the gun control schemes, while the law abiding do, and suffer for it.

People need to bear in mind that neither the politicians nor the police are a friend of gun owners. No names, no pack drill, but 20 yrs ago or so I was seated next to the police chief of a major city police force at an official function on an un-named military base. Maybe he thought he was making small talk with a sympathetic mind when he started extolling the dangers of guns and the benefits of gun control. I readily agreed that guns were potentially dangerous in the wrong hands and asked him just how the gun control system was addressing that. He really didn't have an answer and quickly switched to a discussion about the weather. They will sell you down the river in a heartbeat if it serves their own political or bureaucratic ends.

Gun control gives the bleeding hearts a warm fuzzy feeling of doing something for the good of mankind.

godDAMMIT smellie, you're good! ...damn good...

Maybe I shouldn't mention this, BUT.......

There IS a Canadian political party which has at least THREE CGN members on its National Executive.

It is the Canadian Action Party and it released its Draft Policy on Firearms less than a week ago.

There is a thread on it in Firearms Politics, News in this Board.

I urge you to take a look for yourselves. Post 1 is the Draft Policy (which has been adopted), Post 78 is a potted history of the party from its origins in 1992.

I think you will like it.

I own a mint Thompson m1a1, but it does not do me any good as we cannot take them to the range and use them. what a shame.
