Does anyone have any experience or feedback on the THOR TR-15?

I have found a review here:

w w.officer.com/web/online/On-the-Street/Thor-GDG-TR-15-Rifle/21$52003

but other than that there is not a lot of public info out there. I know it's a new item and is used by some power plants and government agencies in the US and abroad, but public info is scarce.

Can anyone offer some advice or feedback on the rifle?

I set up a discounted group purchase price and want to know if it's worth 'pulling the trigger' as it were.

Here's the home page: w w.thorgdg.com/products/weapons/tr-15-mil-spec

Thanks everyone.

It's an AR. How can it be any different.

Those claimed 1/4" groups are just that. Claimed. With Federal ammo used as well...........

The tester in the article raves about the custom extended charging handle, 2 paragraphs full. But not one word about this miracle barrel that shoots 1/4' groups.

I don't mean to be a snob, but weapon has a negative connotation to me. I wouldn't have commented at all if the words hadn't been used, but sporting guns aren't weapons.

This is a technical forum. Feel free to start a thread in off topics section about how some words upset you. Meanwhile keep it on topic.

Why would you want to buy this over the regular brand name guns? Other than a tac latch it doesnt appear that interesting.

Get licenses in hand, then talk. Otherwise you're just wasting time with your stateside group buys.

To the question, there are lot of AR15 assembler brands in the USA.

looks like any other generic AR, they just had their name engraved on it, stick to a brand from a company that is making firearms for living, not a security consulting company who decided it is cool to have they logo on firearm.

Nothing's decided. This one shoots great and costs less than others available in Canada. As others have said, it is just an AR, not much different from other AR type weapons - hence the feedback request

They make their weapons on site and supply them to their staff - the feduciary liability alone speaks volumes.

The Tac Latch the reviewer seem to be in love with is a $32.50 part you can get it from Neit Arms and the "not your typical birdcage" flash suppressor shown in one of the photo is a Yankee Hill Phantom it is by no means the best muzzle treatment on the market.

GDG's product description doesn't seem all that inspiring, one would think if you make a quality product you would at least make an effort in telling what is different than the rest of the pack, simply proclaim your product is mil spec really doesn't mean anything, heck even a $700 Norinco is made according to mil spec.

Don't dismissed what dangertree says so fast, he knows what he is talking about when it comes to getting AR out of the US. a company like GDG might not have the required ITAR paperwork to get their product exported.

If you are looking for an AR there are lot of quality products in Canada along with fantastic support at the same price range.

Yup you guys are spot on there...

The price is right but I dont want to spend any cash on an unknown. If there was at least some local feedback I'd consider it, but alas...

We submitted an export license application for THOR rifles several months ago.

That permit has since been approved, however, the restrictions they placed on THOR's AR-15 models were so numerous as to make it essentially impossible to export that model series.

We did get export approval for their 408 rifles and met with THOR at the SHOT show to begin working out purchase details (still ongoing).
