Hello,

Not sure if this is the right spot, if not, mods please move accordingly.

Does anyone know if those new SAIL stores sell firearms and ammunition? Also, if they do, are they neutered like the Bass Pro in Ontario by not selling handguns and/or handgun ammunition? Thanks for looking.

Very neutered. Went to buy an 870 there and they wouldn't let me touch it without a trigger lock on. Because the gun was still in the box, they actually went and found a trigger lock specifically to put on before they let me handle it.

Their response when I asked why? "We don't know if you have ammo in your pocket. What if you decided to load it and shoot us all?"

You should have told him you could've still clubbed him with it , so he better go and get the styrofoam version for you to handle. MORONS !!!!!!!!!!!
They don't even advertise ammo on their website, was curious about their pricing but I had a feeling this was one of those stores where you don't need to be spending money at.

I emailed their Ottawa location about the absence of ammo from their website and catalog. They replied that they were trying to find a way to do it.

I do like to make a short list of ammo I want to buy before making a visit.

Just compared 2 beretta shotguns from BassPro and SAIL. SAIL had one $200 more, another $450 more. Only looked at a couple makes, some they got few bucks cheaper, others basspro has few bucks cheaper (like under $50 range). Can always get a catalog or open their website to check more.

Don't see huge difference in amount of weapons on website, or at their stores.

Although if they seriously train their employees to act like that, no thanks. Check if its unloaded and hand it over. Really? Worried about someone pulling shells out of their pockets. Why don't they have armed security and metal detectors at their doors? Not hard for a crook to conceal a pistol to rob them. I wonder how many million times people have purchased ammo from a store and looked at guns while at it. :jerkit:

you can't properly assess a gun if you can't work the action or test the trigger (snap caps..) That is why big stores in the USA let you shoot em there!

maybe have no firing pin in the floor models.. hmmm too easy

Yes, but lebarons sells handgun ammo and will order handguns in for you; yes they will.

Why bother with Le baron the guys in the gun room don't believe in customer service ,there are a few gun stores like Epps or Williams that are so much better give them your business:D:D:D:D

Williams gets like 95% of my business now. I never had a problem with Bing or the other guys at Lebarons gun shop, they just don't like tire kickers. I can't say I blame them really.

I bought a Ruger 10/22 for the wife @ lebaron for ~$175 less then it was at sail (ottawa) so prices are still better then sail.

As for the gun shop guys, Sail did not take me serious, or even let me give it a good look over (they decided to go help someone else and take the gun away not even 5 mins in..) Went to lebaron, they let me handle / look it over it for a good 10 mins (no gun lock),Even got other guns out to let me compare them side by side! ,took me seriously as a customer so i bought it then & there.

I'm one of them "touch and feel before you buy" guys.. so as it stands I'm still buying from LB.

now.. if I could only find a place that sells restricted toys around here...

Little history on SAIL

Funny how SAIL started as the biggest army surplus store in Canada...
They were located in Beloeil, Qc. On the side of Hwy 20. They slowly modded the warehouse and they bought Baronsports (different from LeBaron).

SAIL stands for Surplus D'Armee IMRICO, the original name of the army surplus.

Now, they got back big as an army surplus known as Prefair, located in another warehouse not far from the original SAIL.

Prefair also carry a tactical line (5.11, BHI and others).

On another note, a friend of mine work at SAIL at DIX30 and he works the gun section there. Plenty of people handling guns without trigger locks there :D. He is an avid hunter / fisherman. I will ask him about handgun ammo

Sorry to have gotten away from the OP

i picked up a box of 9 mm. and they had a few other calibers there also.
prices are average. i was at the one in vauhgn mill

Good to know, but I suspect it won't be long. If BP can't sell the stuff there I would imagine SAIL won't be for much longer either.
