This can't be the first time the price of components and ammunition have gotten artificially inflated. Just curious to know your experiences as far as length and severity of the rise as well as the stabilization if any. Pretty much just looking for educated guesses as to when/if this #### is gonna end. I have only been paying attention to ammo prices since 05. Not much to go on.

"...guesses as to when/if this s**t is gonna end..." It won't.

It might stabilize a bit now that the Canadian dollar is over 92 cents. Don't expect it to go down.

Another thing that will stabilize the price of ammo/components is when a Republican is back in the White House (maybe in 3 years). Right now everything in the USA is still being sold as fast as it is made. People complain and grumble, but are still buying it as fast as it hits the shelves.

we had a pormer shortage in the aearly 90s ( Gulf war BS). after the panic buying was over supplies went back to Normal.

We're now having panic buying in the US because of Obama/Dimocrats ,and price gouging. this won't last forever( I figure a year or 2 max. supplies are around. I just scored a few K small pistol pirmers at Lebaron's at around $30 taxes in.

Agreed. The Clinton era scare was also due to suggestions that legislation requiring shelf life limited primers, and taggant inclusion in powder was on the horizon.

While the political climate in the US has changed, I`m not worried. We`re more resourceful in 2009 than we were in 1992.

Is it really inflated? When I bought my first couple pounds of powder 27 years ago I paid $20 a pound. Sierra 130 grain .270 bullets were $20 as well. $2.50 a hundred for primers.Considering inflation, I would say that the price of components has actually gone down, even including the recent spike.

Well when I started buying my own 4 1\2 years ago Premium 12g ammo was about .75c a round and 525 .22 could be found for under $10. That's just the beginning, but you should know what I am talking about. I can't speak for components which is why I am asking.

While we're waiting for American ammo/component prices to drop, lets not forget that the run on this stuff was preceded by a huge run on firearms; firearms that will have to be fed. The phenomenon isn't isolated around ammo or primers this time. Try to buy a quality leather holster. The back orders run into years for these things. I'm not suggesting prices will never come down but if you're waiting for $0.36 45 ACP or $0.27 223 Rem to reappear, I think you're in for a hell of a long wait. Just my $0.02.

Prices go up and down, but you may never see the prices from a few years ago again. They were giving some stuff away. When I first started buying .22 shells I was looking at 2 bucks a box, until I discovered that the co-op grocery store sold them for a buck. Victor #1s were a buck too, and now they about 10. That was 33 years ago. There was a long span when the prices went down, now they've turned up again. Sometimes it gets a little weird.I remember a point in time when a brick of .22 was less than $10, but a tin of 500 pretty ordinary .177 pellets was $7. That one made me question my decision to relive my childhood with better equipment.
The price is the price, I won't quit shooting over powder prices. gun prices aren't much different. From most of my life it cost as much or more to rebarrel a rifle as to buy a new one. Now it's cheaper and better to rebarrel. You just have to go with the flow, and fill your basement when the time seems right. I do realize that that may not help you right now.

The US frenzy is starting to slow but will likely take till the end of the year/next to really show some relief. The prices in the US has definitely stabilized as my product pricing reflects.

will prices fall? Maybe (alot will come from exchange then anything else) but remember that everything we love is HEAVY.

Is the price of oil/Freight going back to the numbers from the 90's? NOPE

Are the Chinese going to stop using up base metals like copper, lead, steel and alum? NOPE.

Part of the ramp up in price is the US silliness but alot more has to do with the raw material rocketing up to unheard of levels. We are finally absorbing the costs from the 2008 commodity insanity.

Then there are the commodity traders. In case you didn't hear, Primer futures can now be purchased on the Chicago merch index.

Wonder if these bozos will get bored of oil/currency/bacon and start playing the primers market?

Yesterday I went to the local UFA and they had a pound of Varget...for $40....

I also saw at the local sports shop some Winchester 333 .22 packs for $17.....ouch.

Most powder ( 1lb ) seem to be a bit over $30 these days. Brass seems to have jumped a bit also, 100 winchester .223 cost me $26 or so and now goes for well over $30 if not pushing $40.

In the early 90's primers went from 25 a thousand up to 35 a thousand and were kinda hard to come by. They went back down to 25 after 6 months or so.
"this too will pass"

The same thing happened when Bill Clinton was elected, supplies of primers and powder and cases dried up and were very scarce for about a year. I was shooting about 20K rounds of .38 super a year in matches and practice and had trouble finding enough components just to shoot matches, especially primers.

In the US when a 'gun grabber' is elected shooters panic, hoarding everything they can get their hands on and causing great shortages.

At the SHOT show in New Orleans I asked the rep from Federal about the primer shortages in Canada and when we could expect some relief. He explained that the total market for Federal in Canada for a year was less than that of Texas for one Month! Compounding the problem is special packaging for Canada (bilingual) which meant that they would only run Canadian product once or twice a year. If we ran out we had to wait for the next production run.

Things are improving in the US at this time, I was in a couple of gun stores in Pennsylvania earlier this month and they had powder and primers in stock as well as small handguns that just flew off the shelves since Obama was elected.

Hang in there.
