well last night I was playing arount thinking what can I do with the pile of 38 Special brass I have kicking around and got to thinking hey I could neck it down.
So what first, hmmmm, into a 308 die, looks interesting but not ###y yet
then what next... well 7mm is smaller.... so away we go
looks not bad, I got that .277 barrel kicking around... but thats for a different project.
One more time, into the .257, and hey that looks not half bad, neck about 1/4" then flared out to the 38 case. Bet it would work well with 87 grn bullets.
Well today I went looking and wouldn't you know it, comparing what I had done to my big table of cartridges I find the .256 Winchester Magnum introduced in 1960 as a handgun cartridge.
.256 WM
.440" rim, .381' Base and 1.281" long
38 Special
.440" rim, .379" base and 1.155" long
so necking the 38 Special down basically gets you a .256WM thats .13" shorter
But I must say it looks interesting with a nice little 100grn rifle bullet on top
