Doing a little research for a europe trip and came across this pick from Prague Castle. Couldn't see the mag but geez doesn't it look like Mr. S's carbine...

But I was wrong they are carting cz52s because the Czechs apparently chose to go their own way. Except for the stock, cover, bolt from a distance... Anyways worth a share. Will have to go back to EE - cz52's available here (lazy mans chuck it out there).

The CZ 52 is a pistol made by CZ. It means Czech Armory 52 being the model name. The Vz 52 is the rifle. Vz is short for Vzor which means version, type, model. You get the idea. 52 being the version. This is why when people mix up CZ with Vz, it's like calling a magazine a clip. It's not as bad as calling Czech Republic, Czechoslovakia or miss pronouncing Brno as Bruno.

Man, wonder what it would take to get ahold of a VZ52 parade rifle? Those are gorgeous! The only ones I've seen at gun shows looked like they were dug out of a slough.

I'll see how close I can get when I am at the castle. Does anyone know how to say "Wow that is way better than an sks" phonetically in Czech?

You are aware that these rifles were made by Czechoslovakia not by the Czech Republic (Czech Republic not becoming a nation until 1992 when Czechoslovakia dissolved). Vz 52 can also refer to the pistol as well (though it is common prevalence in collecting circles to call them CZ 52s to differentiate them between the Rifle and the Pistol, kinda like how we have the FN C1 and the Sterling C1 for our military, technically they both are C1s but most people call the Sterling C1 the Sterling, and the FN C1 the C1 or just FN). Just some semantics for those that enjoy that type of stuff.
