Thoughts/advice on aftermarket 10/22 recievers

ok, so I bought a fancy pants barrel(Tac Sol X-ring 16").

Now I need a receiver for it.

lemme know whats the best. don't need fancy plating, or other frills, just quality build and well made. Don't want higher MOA rails, as I will be shooting it at shorter ranges some times.

and, if you all choose one for me, will it need a special bolt or other parts to make it work? No problem if it does, just let me know about it.

I want to build a nice rifle, cost is a factor but not the only factor. I want to do it well, at least as good as the barrel.

I know there are a few really awesome 10/22 gurus on there.
 
Why not just start with a good gun?
If I buy a gun, I shouldn't have to replace the reveiver, barrel, bolt, trigger and stock to make it a "good gun".
If you want a nice gun, buy a nice gun. Lots of better options than a 10/22.
But that's just my opinion.
 
You have a few options. There are Dlask receiver which are well built and the one i have fits aftermarket parts well or there is the Tactical Innovations standard receiver or rear charging handle option or look for a used Ruger factory reciever which will have looser tolerances. The one thing to consider is if you go all aftermarket parts from all different companies they may not all fit each other without some minor smithing. My Fedderson barrel was SUPER tight in the Dlask receiver but the Kidd bolt fit perfect with next to no slop and it all runs reliably together.
 
I have used pretty much all of the aftermarket receivers... I would highly recommend a Dlask DAR22 0 MOA receiver... they have excellent tolerances and overall build quality at a very good price... what bolt are you planning on using? Barrel fitment is not the issue, as it is easy to sand down any oversized tenon to fit.... bolts are a little trickier.

and what is wrong with a 10/22?
just because people like to play around with their guns dosnt mean they are bad guns.

to the OP have a look at the Dlask like mentioned above.
 
Yep, dlask, TI or pWs from questar, or a normal 10/22 and sell the unused barrel.
Depends on your budget. I have the Ch22 and after a few issues, it runs great.

Can't say enough good things about the Dlask receiver I have, I really like the integrated rail. But unlike Shadowstang's results the Kidd barrel was EXTREMELY tight, but once together the combination shoots awesome.
 
Add up the cost of a few options for a full on custom build in the way you're going and you'll quickly see that buying a Tac Sol X Ring full rifle is a FREAKIN' BARGAIN ! ! ! ! ! Cost of all the custom bits and pieces will run you well north of $1500. But for giggles add up the costs for a Dlask receiver and Volquartson bolt and trigger group and Boyd's stock to add to the cost of your nice barrel.

The only way to get off this "slippery slope" and cut your losses is to buy a stock 10-22 and stick your barrel onto it and call it a day.
 
Upon the information provided I'm going to purchase myself a silver aluminum Dlask receiver.

For anyone saying you should go buy a "good" gun and not have to replace all the parts to make it that way....

I do it because I can, I have an abundance of extra cash and because of that, I can go spend 2k + building my custom Ruger 10/22 and not blink an eye... I also can go spend $1500 on a "good" rifle because I want too....

I say tear your gun apart and build away! It's an addictive hobby. I love having a custom built gun to my expectations!!!! My buddies think I'm crazy, but I enjoy it!

your preaching to the choir brother!
stock 10/22's are fun but when youve got a long winter to kill and hordes of extra cash there is nothing funner then building one.... or five!

I have built more full custom rimfires than most... never regretted a single one... it is a hobby, and an interesting one... when I'm done, I sell them off and move on to a new project.... and have the pleasure of knowing that the guns are being enjoyed by shooters all over Canada... I am particularly happy when they go to new or young shooters.

The reason I want to build one is because I want to BUILD one. In the car tuning world, this won't be a "VISA" car. I will build it.

Also I already have a nice actual Ruger 10/22. I already have a "nicer" gun in my CZ452 Varmint.

not sure on the bolt, I was thinking of one of the nice aftermarket ones. Not maybe one of the really expensive ones, IE Kidd or like that, but I don't mind spending $100 on it either.

As for what bolt fits what receiver, well, what do you suggest?

Also besides the rear charging handle one, what makes one better than the others?

PS, got the barrel today :) its cool.
 
The Kidd guide rod is the best IMO, I like the Superior Concepts handle best of all offerings, the DAR22 receiver is too tight for the Kidd bolt, but if you ship the bolt to Dlask, Joe will fit the bolt to the receiver for you. I would go with a Kidd bolt and single stage trigger or the VQ2000 TG.

strange, i run 2 DAR22 receivers with Kidd bolts and i didnt have to touch them at all they run perfect.
both scalloped, one silver and one black and the receivers are matching, one silver one black.

Mine as well I'm running a black scalloped one in a 7075 receiver with no probs.
