Anyone own one of these scopes and what do you think of it? Are they a sturdy reliable scope with good quality glass?

Thanks
Chris

I've got one on my Rem 700 LSS in 300 Win mag and have never had to resight it.

Magnum calibers don't hurt this scope at all and it's clear as a bell, no blur on the outside edges with the aespherical lenses.

I'd say buy one, but only the Aetec and Whitetail Expidition. The other Simmons scopes are junk in my book.

Here ya go Dan.

Warranty would be my only concern, they seem to be an average quality scope, but if warranty or repairs are needed getting it to and back from the US is time consuming and a pain in the ass.

Hey Chris, I have one on my A-bolt 30.06 and I love it, but like the guys before me the warranty sucks, I almost had to deal with it when I got mine new but the dealer was good enough to just give me a new one. It's very good in the early or late part of the day albeit a little on the large side.

If it goes T/U I'd be looking for a Leup or a 3200 for a little bit more money and a much better warranty.

Simmons... I've got nothing good to say :( ... I have never had a decent product from them yet... and the warranty was nonexistant. If you think Aetec are good lowlight scopes you need to hold one up against an Elite or a Leupold at dusk and take a good look

I bought 2 of those from SIR on their introductory offer. There was no lock on the focus ring, they were impossible to use.SIR said just send them back and gave me a credit.

Walk away from simmons scopes and dont look back. I had a hell of a time getting my whitetail classic replaced. Their warranty is $h1t. I never had anything bad to say about them until i had a problem. Now i steer anyone and everyone away from their lousy service and RUDE customer service employees. They gave me a song and dance for 3 months. When i finally recieved the replacement i sold it immediately. Dont even think about buying their crap.

I've heard some excellent things about them. As far as Warranty goes, no big deal since return time is at most 1 month. I believe the group that owns Simmons etc. is shipping to Canada once per month through a dealer in Calgary. They then are distributed from there.

They will ship once a month assuming there are a certain amount of scopes or binos to be shipped. If there arent, then they dont ship until there are a said amount. So you could wait 1 month , 2 months, 6 months. In my case 3 months + untold headaches. When you finally recieve your scope, what do you have? You have a POS scope with the worst warranty and customer service .
Buy a bushnell elite with good lifetime warranty or buy leupold with excellent lifetime warranty. What it worth to you.

Zedex

You may be correct in some instances.

On several cases, no more then 1 month. Never heard of one longer.....

I will try and remember my original story about Simmons. I had a Whitetail classic mounted on my 7 mag, the gun flew off a quad and the objective lense got chipped by a rock. The scope was fine other than that chip. It still shot dead on. I sent the scope to Simmons. Several weeks later they told me(by letter) the scope was bent and couldnt be fixed. Hmmm. Ok. i thought. I never noticed it being bent. It still shot great. So anyways. They were going to send a replacement(44 mag i think) I cant remember their models nor want to. I cant remember how much money i had to send for the replacement.($100 or so i think). So i wait and wait. I finally call and talked to a lady who had to have been bleeding extensively about the lower extremities. What a #####. I never was able to talk to anyone. So i called again the next day. Talked to another lady who was an equal #####.
I finally talk to some manager. He tells me the paperwork has been sent to California and has to return. Im thinking California? WTF. Why? I call back weeks later. It still hasnt been sent nor have the paperwork. Paperwork? So i talk to another guy higher up the totem pole. He tells me it should be sent this week. I call back 2 weeks later or so. I have this heated conversation with him about not recieving anything. etc. He finally fesses up that the scope will not be sent until a certain # of scopes have to go to Canada. I ask how long it will take. He tells me no idea. If that # isnt reached it will never be sent until it is. I finally hang up and buy a leupold . I wasnt waiting anymore for a scope that could never arrive in my lifetime. It finally does arrive via some fishing supply sporting goods store in Calgary.(3 months later) Cant remember the name. So i sold it immediately and washed my hands of them. It probably cost my $20 in long distance calls not to mention being lied to on several occasions and just the headache of dealing with #####y people. I wish i could remember the whole story as im sure i left out more BS they put me through.
Why even own a very important item if at any time it could crap out or get damaged and have to deal with a bunch of ####heads at Simmons. Lesson learned. If someone wants to take a chance of having a POS scope that has to be returned. Wait untold months for a halfassed replacement, have to remount, resight in. Etc. Then go for it.

Zedex, that is an aweful storey and I know what you mean. I haven't personally owned a Simmons but Barnsness writes about a particular model with excellent performance and value. Models seldom stay the same and do change as do company policies.

Years ago an old buddy purchased a Savage rifle package with a cheap simmons. 30-06 to be exact. About 20 shots later, the vertical reticle adjustement system left the scope and hit him in the head on recoil. Ouch! The scope was made in China and would probably be an example of a poor scope on the low level of Chinese scopes. It was promptly replaced with a Leupold.

I recall the hassles I've had with Bushnell service..........just terrible. Those were in the days before the 4000 and 4200 series..... Since then things have been good.

I think many of us have had problems with all brands. Sometimes your ahead and sometimes your behind.

I happen to believe you get what you pay for quote: You usually get what you pay for... better to put the money towards a 'quality scope'.
