I have a 93R17-BTVS and it is awesome.

I'm thinking tit would be good to get a long-distance target/varmint shooter in .223.

I have always held the 700Rem in high regard, but the Savage accutrigger is top-notch and I have been pleased overall with the quality.

Any input from those who know would be valued.

Savage. You'll have to switch the barrel with an aftermarket tube for a genuine target shooter, and savage barrels can be switched easily and quickly by the user, with just a barrel nut wrench.

Also, the floating bolt head means you don't have to spend money truing the action.

I've got a Rem 700 heavy barrel and a Rem 7 with a 700 factory 24" barrel on it, both in .223 Rem. Very pleased with both of them. Wouldn't hesitate to get a .223 in a Savage bolt rifle, though either.....;)

NAA.

Stevens 200. Savage action sans Accutrigger and they generally shoot the lights out. Add the fact that they're super affordable and you've got a winner. Not to mention the 1-9" twist on the factory barrel makes it logical for heavier bullets rather than the 1-12" or 1-14" garbage still floated by some factories.
