Hello everyone,

I am just trying to find out what everyone else thinks about a Browning BL-22. I have heard the takedown is a major pain, but the rifle is sweet looking shooter.

I am just looking for a possible training situation to move up to a BLR in .308. I figured it would be good practice.

Thanks for the input

The bl22 is a very well made lever action. Likely second best seller to the winchester. Now that win has stupidly quite making the lever 22 the browning and ruger will be the only quality lever out there----Cowboy

A lot of folks like them. Personally I prefer a Winchester or a Marlin. As a 'smith, I do not like working on them. Have seen a few broken firing pins, a couple with the steel peg broken out of the front of the lower non-ferrous receiver casting.

BL-22

Got one for my son and wife to use and they both love it, I think it's a great little gun and have had no problems with it yet. The short stoke on the lever is nice and handy for emptying it quickly. That said, it is too small for a full grown man and I always feel that John Wayne is laughing at me from the grave when I shoot it. JMHO

That browning lever is so slick. The throw is so short on the BL22 that you dont have to remove the palm of your hand from the stock. Just a short flick of the fingers does it, and its a very smooth throw.

This isnt such a good comparison to the BLR tho because there is a full length throw there and you are moving quite a bit more mass. But the BL22 is incredibly reliable and will last you a lifetime, its beautiful, and the action is unlike anything I have felt from any other manufacturer or rimfire levers.

i learned to shoot on my dad's bl22. I love that little gun, in over twenty years we have never had a problem with it and it has taken more than it's share of grouse and squirrels. I actually prefer the trigger over the winchesters.

The first time I detailed-cleaned it, the ejector spring went missing. $10 for a tiny little spring! Am looking to reduce the trigger pull. Does anyone have any experience doing that? Thanks

I agree 100% with what BabySeal says. I bought one for my wife 20 some years ago and it remains as accurate and as smooth as when we bought it. It has had thousands of rounds through it. Everyone in our family has used it and now a whole new generation of kids are learning to use it. I have used a Winchester lever .22 and I don't think there is any comparison. It is also true that it is no fun to clean or disassemble.
