Thanks in advance, looking to upgrade in the near future my savage model 111 .30-06 it came with the xp package. aluminum rings and bases with weavers kaspa 3x9x40mm. Nothing wrong with it just looking to get some better quality for my hunting rifle (moose, deer, bear and wolf) i have looked at a couple brands so far bushnell, vortex sig sauer. so far i like the bushnell the best. any pros or cons of the bushnells? or have any other suggestions? prices 300$-400$ max. also would you upgrade your bases and rings over the stock savage package if so to what and would it make a difference?

once again thanks in advance everyone.

Im very happy with 2 deer I took using a 4200. It took a really hard hit on a rock once and never lost zero. I also like the prostaff line if you go cheaper.

Bushnell 4200's are decent glass.
The 4500 tend to be a tad heavy.
For some reason the taste buds aren't flavourfullable on these 4500.
Not sure why as the optics are remarkably clear.

Definitely steer clear of Vortex in this price range. You could not go wrong with a Bushnell elite. They also have a very strong warranty which chances are, you will not ever need. There is a used 4-12 3500 with AO on the EE right now for 300 shipped...

Thanks everyone for the input new to CGN so i dont have access to the EE yet, i was really gung hoe for the vortexs sales propaganda when i first seen it. once i have done my research i came to the conclusion that its all the name your buying for the price as much as i like the name and some of the pro hunters that use it ( meat eaters tv) at this time i am not going to fork out money on a product that i can get better quality of, with a different name. sure there higher end gears seems to be better but i am not quite there yet at affording it. i watched on you tube a guy returned his vortex scope i think 6 times before the "anti fog lense" actually worked the company ended up using argon instead of nitrogen the last time and it seemed to work.

Also the bushnell Trophy Xtreme 4x16x44mm has caught my eye as of recently any feed back on it? i love bushnells 100% life time guarantee on it as well.

thanks for all the input greatly appreciate all the advice i look forward to picking your brains soon about reloading rifle cartridges. my next purchase is going to be a reloading kit i have come to the conclusion i am going to buy a single stage press and not a turret.

two things to consider for your Savage
- if hunting, 4x16x44mm is a bit large and heavy. The 30mm rings it needs are expensive for no good reason.
- your rifle has a "long action" and quite a few scopes are not long enough to fit unless you use offset rings or mount a rail.

thanks for the input i have always been told that a 3x9 is an optimal scope for hunting especially in North western Ontario in the dense brush and that a 4x16 would be over the top but i figured it wouldnt be that much more since the minimum magnification is only 1 power higher and with it being 4mm bigger it would be a little better at light gathering and also if i ever came into a situation it would be nice to that that little extra magnification on my side. i never even considered the action length i figured scopes would be pretty standard lengths. thank you so much i greatly appreciate all the input. i think i will be looking into a bushnell elite series and might look at a Nikon of similar value.

I have a 1" vortex viper 3-9x40, paid under $300 for it(314 after taxes and shipping I think it was). Functions flawlessly, and I like it at least as much as my buddies vx2. Ymmv, but I like my vortex.
