Just looking at upgrading my plain ol' Winchester Defender 1300

I am looking at the ATI System with the Scorpion Recoil

Any thoughts on this stock system and recoil system?

Hopefully these are higher quality than the other ATI products I have tried or examined. It all seems like cheap garbage to me.

Are these things significantly less expensive than the Blackhawk recoil-reducing stocks? If not, why not just go with those? I have two that are years old, one of which has several thousand rounds of experience. They work as advertised if not held tightly into the shoulder, and they seem to hold up well.

I would have went for the Blackhawk myself but they don't make one for the 20 gauge. My ol' lady has a bad shoulder and 20gauge is still too much. I have been on the fence about ordering an ATI, so Ill give this thread a bump for info.

Everything I've handled from ATI has led me to believe their name stands for Avoid This Item.
maybe these are different

I would love to go with Blackhawk but they don't make them for the Winchester 1300 anymore. Quote from the company.

ATI seems to be the only one making things for the Winchester now.

I have thought about selling the Defender and getting a remington 870 just for the tactical add-ons, but i really like how it performs. Oh well. i guess I'll just add another shotgun to my wish list.

I've handled em but never fired one so take it with a grain of salt. The rubberized bit on the pistol grip feels decent, better than hard plastic. I have never heard anyone comment on the recoil reduction though, so I don't think it's a very drastic difference. Just don't get the side folder model. Plastic on plastic it just screams "I'm gonna wear out". At the end of the day it's ATI, don't expect to deploy overseas with the thing, but for playing around it would be fine

I had one on my 870.
It doesn't do anything for felt recoil imo. You're basically strapping some plastic to the shotgun.
I did like the grip at first, as you're able to mitigate some of the recoil with your shooting hand.. but I ended up going back to the original stock. The grip does get in the way when you're doing a tactical reload on the range, it's easier to balance the shotgun on your hip and flip it over to load without the grip. That may just be me though.
I also hate the folding pin, it gets right in the way when you have bead sights. I've hit my glasses and face more than once with that bulge.

I like the acronym "Avoid This Item" for ATI.

No issues at all with my Talon stock. Better quality than others in the same price point. Also reduced recoil compared to the cheap synthetic stock on the shotgun before. That thing was like having a 2x4 jammed in your shoulder. Don't let the haters disway you. ATI is just as good or better that all the other tactical stocks that come on various guns. Way better than that cheap feeling Flex stuff from Mossberg too.
