Thoughts on getting a short-barrelled double...

...and guys, cut Dave a little slack. Sure he's young & his enthusiasm can get the better of him...well...a lot, but at least he's directing his energies into directions where he is constantly learning new things. How's the kid to know what's what without asking questions, no matter how hairbrained they may seem to us? We were just as naieve once upon a time! For us older guys who grew up reading Mack Bolan and the Survivalist...who here didn't want to own a stainless .44 Auto Mag or twin Detonics Combat Master 1911s?

We need more young guys like Dave to get involved in the sport. Just imagine the hassles and red tape he had to go through to take and pass his CFSC/CRFSC courses? Especially living in an urban area and his parents are tettering between being anti-gun & grudgingly neutral?

Instead of crapping on him, offer him some constructive advice. If his idea or question is off the mark, tell him straight up. One thing I've noticed about Dave is his openess and willingness to admit his screw-ups. Cut the kid some slack and be honest with him. He'll appreciate it and CGN won't have the reputation of being another elitist arsehole board where newbies are made to feel unwelcome. There's enough of those floating around cyberspace now!

Shooting ANY 12 ga in a cut down or abbreviated form is painful. Just ask anyone who has ever fired off a heavy charge in a light single shot Cooey or Winchester! It friggin' hurts! Same goes for short barrel shotguns, like the Remington 870/Norinco HP-9 with 14" or 12.5" bbls. Taking away weight, increases felt recoil exponentially. A good fixed stock and recoil pad can help alleviate that somewhat, but you're still dealing with some pretty fierce recoil.

The same thing goes for shotguns with folding stocks, like the Remington LEO folders. Ever wonder why so many of them come up for sale on a regular basis in the EE? Guys buy them for the "Look Cool Factor" shoot them a couple of times at the range, let the bruises heal and then immediately switch them out for a good fixed stock like the Hogue or Speedfeed.

What he said :p , I usualy only shoot my 870 18inch bbl and LE folder from the pistol grip lol.... the folder hurts too much after about a box.

Lol your also right about the cooeys X-man... They kick like a fricken mule.

Anyway dave I would seriously just buy yourself a coach gun, if somehow you were able to get your hands on a legal double barrel 12 gauge with 8 inch bbl length and a pistol grip... your going to end up damageing ligaments in your arms at best.
Either that or start lifting some serious weights buddy!.
Lets face it your going to fire it in all its glory sometime ;) .

Anyway I'm not all that much older then you, I ask some hairbrained questions sometimes too... dont worry about it! this is the place to do it.
No place is better in my eyes as there are alot of people on here who have done and seen everything firearms.
Cheers dave!.
