Can I get your thoughts on the Marlin .35 rem or just .35 rems in general. I'd be using it for hunting deer mostly. How does the .35 rem compare to a 30-30? I know I could probably use the 30-30 for deer but I was hoping to get something a little bigger incase I decide to hunt other creatures. I'm really stuck on marlin levers but I'm not 100% sure what calibre. Thanks for you input.

Rem 35cal is better cal then the 30-30 i can use up to 220 gr bullet the 30-30 only lets me use 170 gr the Rem 35cal can be used on moose aswell :D

I like your style 8)

As said the 35 remington has more power than the 30-30, and has the same range limitations. I'd consider it a very good 150 or so yard deer rifle, and up for larger game too.

If you don't reload factory ammo isn't the most common, although I certainly do see it in the larger stores.

I use a 35 Rem for deer and consider it a great round within it's range. In a Marlin I would limit shots to 150-200 yds at the most because of the trajectory, if you are scoping the rifle sight it in for 150yds and it will give you a point blank range to about 200yds otherwise sight in for 100yds if you won't be shooting at longer ranges, this will give you more accurate bullet placement. I happen to use Spitzers in my 35 but you cannot use them in the Marlin, try the 200rn bullets they are your best bet, I wouldn't bother with the lighter bullets they offer no advantage. I have never recovered any bullets from my game they have been passthroughs in every case, very good penetration.

I dont know too much about the .35 whelen, but I own a marlin model 336 in a .35 Rem. and it is a very accurate rifle out to 100 yards with open sights. And the penetrating power is not a problem when your furthest deer may come with in 75 yards where I hunt.

35 rem

If you are staying within the range limits for the 35 Rem. then deer , moose and black bears should be no problem. 8) When a little more power is needed then the 35 Whelen would be a better choice. :D
