thoughts on nickel finish?

just a couple of thoughts- best to get the entire pistol done by a reputable smith rather than take it to pieces and have someone plate it- plating WILL ADD to the thickness of the metal and there may not be that much 'SLOP:" in the corresponding holes- in other words, when you get all the pieces back , and put it back together, it may bind due to the thickness of the plating- if you take it to a smith complete, he has an obligation to return it FUNCTIONING- even if he does send it out

my mod 24 came in to the shop today, just have to wait until the province gives me the ok. thought it looked pretty good actually, though the action seemed a little stiff compared to the 629 i handled earlier. problem is, im gonna have to go to north dakota to get some ammo for it.

cheers

Its true if nickel is done in a very shiny finish, it doesnt look good as polished chrome might. However, in a dull finish, nickel is actually a very nice look.

I have herd mixed feelings on the matter. Some say chrome plating can flake off, not sure if thats true, and that nickel finish will last longer. Im hopeing someone can comment on that truth to this.

picked up today, i don't mind it! ill have to get some pics and shrink them down. problem now is to get some ammo, trip to the US i think as Manitoba has no 44 special ammo

cheers

that's not to say you can't MAKE SOME- last time i looked wsl still had it in the catalogue, and you can easily make it by trimming 44 mag cases to 44 spcl lengths- mof, my dies are 44 spcl set up long

Don't get caught crossing the border with it by the US customs. Read up on the issues with bringing ammo over the border. It's not pretty.

Since .44 Mag is a "stretched" version of .44 Spl ask if the .44 Mag cases can be cut down to .44 Spl spec.
