A great sounding gun, but without shooting it myself, I need a little info.

Does anyone own the new SSP? Has anyone given it a go? Thoughts?

Thanks again.

I just got the black SSP with wood grips, stainless bits a few months ago. Love it! I don't know much about 1911's, but it's got a nice 4#-ish trigger, and it feels nice. The only problem I have is that the slide stop notch is peening a bit on the slide. If you poke around, other people have been having this problem as well. Mine is peening on the muzzle-side of it, near where it meets the bottom of the slide. Functionally it seems fine for now though.

I gave mine to my son. Great shooter, accurate and reliable. I haven't seen one yet that didn't peen the slide notch. Cosmetically it looks like hell but doesn't seem to effect accuracy or reliability. Finish does wear quickly if you use a holster a lot.

Take Care

Para SSP 1911

Was set to buy one, used as new/exc condition but passed. Fellow that bought it had a huge problem with the Series 80 firing pin type safety junk in it. The little lever in the frame that activates the little plunger in the slide that blocks the firing pin from moving forward when it's not supposed to kept popping up and jamming the gun. Two trips to the 'smith & on the second trip the 'smith removed the extra junk at the request of the new owner. This particular Para seems to run okay now, but it kinda soured me on them. Just like I shy away from any 1911 with the extra junk in them [like the new Auto-Ord GI model and the S&W 1911's]. Ingenious solution to a non-existent problem or likely to cause a problem in my estimation. My .02.............

The Para SSP is a nice looking 1911, though, I'll give you that.....

This is what has happened to a number of the Para's I have looked at. I don't know the exact reason why, but I suspect the slide is a little soft and starts to roll up at the corner of the slide stop cut over time.

FWIW, I have never seen that happen on a Colt or a Norinco 1911.

FWIW, I had one. Like Canuck44 said it is accurate and reliable. Mine shot low out of the box (replaced rear sights with a set of Novaks) and the slide peened almost instantly. I got jaded by Para's 'customer service' talking head and traded it off earlier this year. YMMV...
