thoughts on rem model 7 camo 223??

I'd get it in blued/walnut... those camo jobs look cheap... the Model 7 is a nice compact rifle... it would be a good travel companion in .223 for plinking, predators and dispatch.

Pro:
They are smaller and handier than most
They are easy to shoot well
The model you are looking at has a nicely weighted barrel

Con:
Not as many accessories available as the 700 series
They (all Remington's) use a magazine spacer to accommodate the little cartridges instead of actually shortening the action.

.223 is too small to hunt with, You can shoot gophers and coyotes but that's about it. I got a .223 but it's a Tavor it's not as accurate as a rem 700 would be but it's semi automatic and is accurate enough and the ammo is cheap so its a fun gun to just have fun with. I can't ever see buying a .223 in a bolt action when you can get .223 semi auto's and use beowulf magazines to get 14 rounds. Unless of course your buying it to be hunting coyotes and gophers then its a good gun you cannot go wrong with a rem of any caliber

I have a model seven camo in .17 fireball, action is a bit rough, and the plastic stock is the ####s, if I press on it when shooting from bags groups open up. however it functions well, and fireball aren't avaible in many choices.
if you happy with the price, its a senisable firearm (.223,) in a handy, compact rifle.

I rather enjoy the model 7.... Quite a treat to pack around and the one I had the pleasure of working with was superbly accurate... They are LOUD tho... And the stock forearm reminds me of something savage builds but if you pay attention to the barrel channel clearance it might surprise you... A stainless synthetic 7-08 was spotted recently in the EE with an asking price of $850, if not for another recent addition to my collection I'd of grabbed it.

Model 7 in 7-08
100M, shot from bag's
139gr Interlock over H4350
3-9x40 Bushnell mystery scope

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I have a stainless M-7 with the synth stock in 300 SAUM. If there is a handier little rifle for sitting in a tree stand or any other type of blind I haven't seen it. Mine did not shoot all that well as it came from the factory. Free floated the barrel and glass bedded the action and it is a totally different rifle. Their compactness makes them a good choice for a youth or a woman. In 260 or 7mm-08 they are very manageable.

I have read to free float the barrel vs add pressure to barrel. Seems very few don't have issues that need adressed out of box. Not that they are big issues but something to think about

Thanks for all replys

Justin

Correct. That SS Model 7 7mm-08 was much like you, from south of GP.
I've got a few boxes of .284 bullets on my bench waiting to try out, but they are all heavier, starting with 154 Interlocks up to 175 Grand Slams.
