I don't seem to see much talk about rifles from the Remington custom shop are there any reasons and what are your thoughts as to how they compare against other custom rifles, (ex: ATRS, PGW, etc.) or even to the TRG-22

On the Remington Site they list the XM3 as sub-moa to 1000 yards and both the 40XB and 40XS as capable of .5 inch groups at 100 yards.

thanks

buy one and let us know how they shoot. m40 is marines unit of choice so they are probably on par if not better then that so they should be good i would i think?

I was hoping to get some input from the more experienced long range or target shooters on this forum

i got a rem 700 in 7mm stw the first year they came out , and it was directly from their custom shop . i waited 8 months for it .
it is on the heavy side , around 12 pounds , but it shoots tiny tiny groups . 5 shots always over lapping at 100 yards , 5 shots always touching at 200 yards .

the downside was the barrel is hammer forged and the groups open up with the older barnes x bullet ( not sure if the new ones are any better ) . it will still do .5moa groupings .

it shoots so well , i'm afraid to use it too much and end up shooting out the barrel .

if i had the chance to buy it again , i'd buy 2 .

Thanks for your input Burnt_Servo, sounds like you are still impressed with your remington custom shop rifle. The TRG's are also hammer forged barrels (I believe) and most people say they will hold .5 at 100 yards as well.

This is one of the 40X rifles from the custom shop...being that it is a custom from Remington itself would it hold it's value more than say a custom from a private builder?

Order a custom barrel, Stock, and a take a donor M700 to a good gunsmith. You will be miles ahead in cost and accuracy potential.

A few things I would suggest you do.

Pick up a current Rem catalog and flip to the custom shop section. There is a pic with a rack of rifles and test targets. It's there cause they are showing off their gear and impressing potential customers.

have a look at what the typical BR and F class rifle will do - lots and lots of pics and stories on this site, my site, and others.

You can even have a look at the performance of off the shelf products from Savage and tikka. I am sure you will come across some on the Axis.

Compare costs, compare performance and decide for yourself what is best.

No wrong answers..... Well, not really.

what does it mean ? It is MOA capable or it isn't, distance shouldn't matter  or I'm reading this the wrong way

All rifles are moa capable out to 1000 yards. Very few are 1 moa capable to 1000 yards, which I would understand to be a <10 inch group at 1000 yards.

I used to be a Remington man.....then I owned a few and changed my mind. I've seen some real piss poor Rem's for sale, NIB 870's,VTR's,597's,#7's,#700's with: rusted bores, damaged crowns,scratched/dented receivers/barrels/stocks, rust on outside bluing, action full of metal chips from factory, stripped site mounting screw holes, floppy triggers, miss machined flutes in a stainless barrel, actions that felt like a stick being jammed into a pail of gravel, misdrilled site bases,........I'm of the opinion now that the custom stuff is about as good a quality as a run of the mill Browning or Sako.
BTW Remingtons accuracy guarantee is worthless! it basicly says that it will hit a target at a given distance but fails to say how big the target is,or whare on the target they could hit with it. "Our rifles are MOA capable....all your rifles? This one in particular? Or that one over there? Capable or competent?
