Thoughts on Sig 516 Partrol Rifle??

Outstanding weapon, in some respects better than the Hk 416. Designed by a fellow who worked directly on the Hk 416 and is said to have included improvements into the system that were not thought of in the 416.
Clean, very reliable accurate and light. Check out the youtube videos of the Thai Army Tests.

They're fine, but IMHO pistons are a solution for a problem that doesn't exist, especially if you aren't ripping full auto in the Sandbox. Piston systems are proprietary, and the gas systems are not compatible. In the unlikely but possible event you need parts it can be quite an ordeal to get them.

Unless you're wed to the idea of a piston gun a good quality DI rifle will serve you well, and have the benefit of being interchangeable with any MilSpec parts. Daniel Defense or Colt are great manufacturers. CORE and Wyndham are fine base models.

I have a German SIG 516. I like piston AR rather than DI AR (I am lazy and try to minimize cleaning). I found it recoil a bit more heavy than a DI AR and the accuracy is about a 2 MOA with AE223. I have been told piston AR is not as accurate as DI AR. However, I have not tested the full range of match ammo yet. It is a bit heavier than a DI AR. But I do not run the bolt as wet as a DI AR. I use froglube in the SIG 516 and shoot in -20 C weather.

I have shot a few different AR's and love my Sig 516 and wouldn't trade it for anything that I have shot

Love the piston system and how easy it is to clean

It could use an upgraded trigger but the stock one is adequate and comparable to other AR's in the price range

Its a good rifle. Pretty accurate. The only thing (which again may be an isolated incident) when the SIG rep came to my work and provided us with a demo, the 516 kept getting FTF. Pretty much every second round would feed. Saying that, i fired about 500 rounds through a 516 (16.5'' version) and it ran like a boss.
