I an curious what everyonr thinks of the CZ 527 carbine in .223? Strongly thinking about purchasing one for trapping. Something a touch bigger than my 17 Hmr. Maybe someone has another opinion on a short light trapping gun in 223?

First time posting, pleae take it easy on me.

This gun also interested me. Although the one I held was 7.62x39. It didn't feel as heavy as it looks. The wood wasn't the greatest I've seen. The barrel could be a heavier contour for my liking. I do love the length. It's almost a perfect fit for me (LOP). The barrel is also the perfect length for a varmint gun. I eventually said no, but it is an interesting gun.

As far as the gun goes, there is nothing wrong with a Mauser action. CZs are good quality guns at a fair price.
You say the gun is for trapping, are you using it in lieu of your .17 for dispatching wounded animals or for actual hunting/ defense?
Wouldn't a .17 or .22 be better for finishing off trapped animals? And a .223 may be a tad light for a defensive firearm.

There are more practical and inexpensive choices for trapping gun.
Stevens in 22WMR would be one of them, and I know where you could find one.

The THEORY is that I would carry the 223 in case I stumble across a wolf on the trail. Something that will put a small hole in it but have knock down power and can reach out there and touch something.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with CZ 527 in .223, an excellent rifle!
If it fits you properly, and price is within what you are willing to pay, go for it!

I picked one up at a gun show in 17 hornet. Unbelievable little gun, and I think it would be enough for a wolf at close range and minimal pelt damage.

Mine in 7.62x39 drops deer just fine.I also handload Sierra .311's / 150gr for bigger stuff requiring more penetration.I had exits in both deer using 123gr handloads.........no heart /no lungs......Harold

My pleasure.

As mentioned, price point is a bit higher then we would like it to be, and before you make your decision, take a quick look at Zastava M85 in .223 It is also very nice, and less expensive, 91.999% of CZ for 70% of the price. :)

And I also know where you can find one.

In my opinion you will find the 527 awkward to carry because the magazine sticks out at the balance point and sticks into your back if carrying with a sling.
