thoughts on the maxus wicked wing

now i have a maxus but the for stock is starting to loosen up not much but you can feel it, my son has an sx4 and absolutely loves it so i am going to get new waterfowl gun this summer and im up in the air on what to get

If you have a Maxus, you know what to expect from another. Have a look at the Browning Silver as well. You may like it better than the SX4 if thats the route you are considering.

The buttstocks tend to loosen over time, add a little blue loctite, tighten the nut, and do not overtighten the recoil pad screws.

In my opinion, the Maxus 2 is ugly as hell. I dont like anything about the redesign.

Ah, K. I do prefer the look of the original Maxus forearm, but the reason for that is the same reason I bought a Maxus 2 (Ability to add a mag extension for competition shooting). The stock on the 2 is kind of goofy too, but meh. Such is life, I bought it more for the features than the aesthetics, but other than the weird lookin stock, I think it's a pretty good looking gun. Having a (plugged) mag tube extension that is almost the same length as the barrel looks awesome too, IMO.

Mag extensions and such are not my cup of tea as my guns are only used for clays or hunting. But if I ever needed a shotgun with a mag extension in a different life, I’d go with the Silver over the Maxus 2. I just cant look past those ugly stocks

Personally, I have zero use for a mag extension, so I certainly wouldn't pay extra for it, I wasn't even looking to buy a shotgun at the time, but when I came across the Wicked Wing Bronze Edition for $1299, I couldn't resist. The standard black Stalker models were selling for more at most stores.

The Silver doesn't have the speed load feature, which is pretty much the only reason I went with a Browning semi. If it weren't for the magazine cutoff and speed load features on the Maxus, I would have probably bought a Beretta 1301 or something.

Whole different set of priorities when looking for a 3-gun shotgun.

ya i would not use a mag ext i am using it strictly for waterfowl hunting ok another queastion how about the silver or the maxus

Both of these guns are excellent. If it’s strictly a waterfowl gun, than I would go with the Silver. If you plan to do upland or small game hunting as well, then you will likely be walking and carrying for long periods of time. In this case, I’d choose the Maxus.

New prices are pretty crazy nowadays. Look in the used market. I’ve picked up some pretty sweet deals as of late

I've had my Maxus for almost 10 years now. Lots of hard waterfowl hunts in blizzards, half ass monsoon rains, cant recall any problems.

I keep it clean, likely 5000 rounds threw it in the field, I use it coyote hunting as well, shooting 00buck and #4 buck. It cycles all 2 3/4, 3 and 3.5" loads no problem.

I have a Maxus Sporting ... it is amazing. I have used it for hunting as well as my new found trap hobby. I recommend any of the Maxus I series ... not too sure about the II series.
