Thoughts on youth gun

Hello Everyone
I have decided to buy my son (almost 7 years old) a new rimfire.He has been shooting my bolt action and 10/22 at the bench,but he wants to shoot some gophers and he could use a rifle that fits him better.I have been considering the Savage cub,CZ scout (expensive,but I like CZs) and the T/C Hotshot.Any of you have experience with any of these? pros/cons?
 
The tc hotshot is a very light, very easy to handle little 22 and may fit him perfect right now, I went with the scout, it was a little bigger, and they had to stretch just a little, but it offers single shot capability which can quickly be changed to 5 or 10 shot, and it's the one of the three that will serve the owner a lifetime without needing upgrading. My boys now use tc r-55s, just because, and I have the scout,(7 and 9). I put a full size stock on it, and it's the perfect 22. Sure it's more money , I think in the long run you will be the happiest with it. All three are good rifles the cz just happens to be the best option I think.
 
I bought a Henry youth lever and a Savage Cub for my kids. Disadvantages? Cub is a single shot. Other than that, no issues. Everybody that picks them up has a ball with them.
 
I would recommend a Tapco Fusion adjustable stock for your 10/22.

No kids gun is going to solve the problem in the long run, because in the long run he won't be a kid.
 
The T/C Hotshot appears to be a very well made gun for the price. I don't have one but i've held one and it was very tempting to buy as a throw in the pack gun for camping etc... would be perfect for little ones, and the peepsight is actually pretty decent. It just felt solid overall and it is inexpensive.

I can't speak for the other guns, except that savage has never disappointed me either.
 
I had a chance to, as I like to say, fondle a couple of those at Del's.
Nice unit for a youngster.
Bonus if you plan to introduce the young shooter to a sxs or o/u in
time to come.
They will be used to the break open action.
Be sure if you go this route to check the stiffness of the hinge.
The one I worked was very tight.
Too tight actually.
Great that you're doing this for the young shooter.
Fun to be had.
 
Henry Mini Bolt - check it out. Got one for my 8 year old grandson and it has been a huge success.

That little rifle is a perfect fit for young shooters - it is completely downsized, not just shortened.

Has a very nice fitting stock, great fibre optic open sights, decent trigger pull, and is amazingly accurate for its size.
 
I bought a TC Hotshot for my daughter this spring, and she loves it. I recently put a scope rail on it and a NCStar 4x30 and she can whack anything at 25yds no problem. The action is simple and she has learned to use it quite well. TC sells spacers for the buttstock to change the LOP till they outgrow it totally and need to move up to a full size .22

No experience with other makes but I read nothing but good things about the Henry Minibolt, and Savage are usually great rimfires for the Cubs.
