Hey Guys,

New to posting here but have been watching the forums for years. I searched and did not find really what I was looking for so I apologize if this has been discussed. Just looking to get into one of the mentioned non-restricted "black rifles" in .223/5.56.
The good news is we seem to be actually getting a few non-restricted options these days, but that means I have to make choices. I understand the Coyote and Troy 102 haven't really been in anyone's hands yet and even the MCR is very new. But based on what you know about these rifles, if you had to pick one, what would you guys choose?

Thanks for the help!

I just purchased the WS-MCR from Wolverime Supplies. I put a few rounds through it already and absolutely love it. I chose this rifle over the Coyote for a few reasons.

First, I like the idea of the side charging handle vs the rear that the Coyote appears to have. I mounted the charge handle on the left side so after a mag change the left hand can work the handle and return the gun to battery quickly.

Second, it was less money than the Coyote. Although this isn't important to everyone, value is important to me. The 180 seemed like a good idea and I felt the improvements in the WS-MCR build would just elevate what was a good design.

Also important to me was Wolverine's commitment to stand behind the product. Warranty is something no one ever wants to chase but I have confidence in Wolverine's customer satisfaction.

Lastly, I could get one. Coyote's weren't here yet. I'm a farmer and spring planting is almost here. I have time now to get things in place for my shooting sport fun.

These were my thoughts. I'm sure the other guns are good. I've had a Troy PAR and the quality of their guns are really good so I'd expect their NR semi to be good as well.

Lol sure if he wants to spend considerably more on just a receiver set than any of the options he inquired about. OP of your choices I think I’d go with the coyote. Only thing I don’t like about it is the proprietary hand guard.

You can build a modern sporter for about $1600-1800 if you can pick up a donor gun, like a norinco for cheap or a mossberg mmr etc for $500-800. But you'll be waiting a year to get a receiver set from ATRS.

Where are you getting $1200 MS receiver sets? I'll take 2.

I would suggest the WS-MCR right now because there are some out in the wild. No one has any idea how the Coyote will be.

What we can say is that the WK-180C is a mixed bag, it is accurate, enjoyable to shoot and comes with the ability to access the AR15 market. However build quality has been mixed, some people have absolute champs others have pieces break relatively frequently. I love my WK180C but I can't rely on it because in less than 2000 rounds the cocking handle has broken twice, and the piston + piston spring once.

Wolverine likely will not comment on the WK180C now that they are no longer are involved with Kodiak (which is fair enough) but I believe that Wolverine will have taken all the issues raised with the WK180C and fixed them for the WS-MCR. I note that the cocking handle and pistol design have both changed.

Ps. Wolverine if you are reading this please build a SA80 clone, it's just a bullpup AR-18 after all :D
