THREADED BARRELS, what good are they in canada??

lol, really im looking for a reason to justify buying a gun with the threaded tip because i too think they look cool. itd be nice to find something functional and practical to justify it with though
 
There's a variety of fake supressors, or barrel extensions, or compensators.

At least for rifles, some non-restricted barrel lengths and profiles end up looking very weird. There are some barrel shrouds that people use to beef up the profile.

Same like war (huh) absolutely nothing.
Does make the difference from prohibited so that's cool better than not having it and *if* they ever make sensible laws it could be useful.

Personally I'd rather have unmodified firearms but take what we can get I suppose.

Barrel is still the same length with threads on the outside or not....

And muzzle breaks and comps are a big reason. Break/comp for target shooting to reduce fatigue, take it off to hunt ( for hunting anywY) so you don't end up deaf.... Just make sure it sights in the same after removal.

For example the HK45c is prohibited in Canada by a few mm shorter than the minimum allopwed, but my HK45c with threaded barrel isn't prohibited because the barrel is longer for the threading. Here is a pic :)

Another example is the Walther ppq in 9mm. Standard barrel length is 102mm.
But I happily own a threaded version with a 118mm barrel
 
Sometimes the only "extended barrel" a manufacturer makes for some models is threaded. Eg. Glock 19, if you want a factory / Glock barrel, you have to accept the threaded one. Everything else is aftermarket.

SIG, for the P228/P229, makes a 106mm barrel and a threaded (slightly longer) barrel. Most people choose the 106mm. It looks less dorky, and it's cheaper.

What can you put on your pistol's threaded barrel? A thread protector. That nice heavy custom comp will stop some pistols from cycling reliably.

If you really want something cool to put on the end of your threaded barrel, get yourself a company license for prohibited devices. While you're at it, your licensed company can buy the 12(6) versions of all these pistols we're talking about. Then you won't need a threaded barrel.
 
To me it gives the gun options. Sure you can't own a suppressor right now. But you never know.... maybe in the future? There is also wayupnorth's approach.

If it makes the barrel legal by all means put it on my guns. But I would never order one if I didn't have to.

this thread helped explain a bit of uncertainty.
I have a question though, as I sit here contemplating the G19 threaded I'm considering buying; why is there a fellow on equipment exchage selling a G19 with non-threaded barrel? It's not listed as "prohibited" in the post.

Also, I think the PPQ is long enough with normal barrel, my local store has'em, and are getting the navy (TB) soon. (Edit: Think I'm wrong here)

Thanks for asking this question OP. Bottom line is there's absolutely no use for a threaded barrel in Canada. There's a reason to get one (if it makes a barrel long enough to be restricted instead of prohibited), but there's no use.
