They are worthless in Canada. Sometimes they make the difference between restricted and prohib due to barrel lenght.
Best idea I've heard yet , to me the threaded barrel on its own doesn't look right , kinda like it missed a finishing stage in the shop .I like getting custom made comps, adds a personal touch and it's a little fancy too, takes the gun up a notch in looks.
For example the HK45c is prohibited in Canada by a few mm shorter than the minimum allopwed, but my HK45c with threaded barrel isn't prohibited because the barrel is longer for the threading. Here is a pic

There's a variety of fake supressors, or barrel extensions, or compensators.
At least for rifles, some non-restricted barrel lengths and profiles end up looking very weird. There are some barrel shrouds that people use to beef up the profile.
