Hey guys, has any one had a smith thread the muzzle of a shorty barrel with 1/2"-28 tpi thread patten? I would like to add a .30 cal muzzle break on to my rifle, instead of the typical m14 flash suppressors. Also does any one know a good company to send a barrel too to have this done?

Dlask does barrel work maybe check with them, kind of a ways to ship though as I think they are in Vancouver, but if i wanted to know where a reputable gunsmith was in my area I would ask a gunsmith in the know and Dlask is in the know?!
good luck

Dlask, elwood epps, tac ord , to name a few
The 1/2x28 mod was quite popular prior to the factory shorty arriving here. Dlask alone has probably done close to 200 chop and thread mods to chinese barrels for me alone.

x2 for Tac-Ord. Relatively close, especially if you regularly travel south of Barrie. Had mine done and I couldn't be happier.

I apologize for resurrecting an old thread. But why is the 1/2"-28 tpi thread mod popular? Arent most 308/7.62 brakes threaded for 5⁄8”-24 tpi threads? What am i missing?

Thanks

GI , M1A and chinese standard contour 22" barrels aren't sufficient diameter at 18.5" so 1/2x28 is the "safe" alternative.
I have in the past had 22" medium contour krieger barrels cut back to 18.5" and threaded 5/8x24 , lotsa meat for that on the krieger 22 medium ;)

If a smith was making the factory 18.5 barrel any shorter to accomodate new threads.... Yes, the factory short barrels are much thicker diameter between gas system and flash hider so a 5/8x24tpi thread could be used.... But that barrel would be only useable on a restricted class as it would be under 18.5 with the new threads.
