Since I have the good fortune of owning three BCG's I felt that I should share with the group some pics and a layman's assessment. That being said I should also point out that, as I write this, I have a 10 month old crawler distracting me from tapping into my literary genius and I had a three year old meddler "assisting" me with most of the pictures.

First off, the only bolt carrier group that has been used is the Stag(unsure of cost). It is also the only Semi-auto carrier in the group. It has functioned flawlessly and fit well into a NEA barrel that I owned and also into the S&J 11.5" barrel that I am currently running. For reference it is the solid black BCG.

The second BCG is from Icearms $199 + shipping, a new company that has sprung to life from Dlask Arms, the company that has supplied Canada with barrels, adapters and rails for many years. It is coated with Nickel Boron which apparenty has natural lubricating properties. As many other CGN'rs have pointed out, the machining marks are more prevalent than the other two BCG's.

The third BCG is from NEA and sports their ARC+ coating $189 + shipping.

Note the heights of the slide? in this picture - the icearms appears to have shorter cuts at the centre

finally, my attempt to measure the size of the gas key opening

OMG the rugrats are starting to fortify their positions - look at the pics, ask some questions if any, and I will elaborate, spell check and make this more coherent once I find some peace and quiet :)

Nice pics and comparison. Interesting comparison between the gas key opening sizes also!

Your NEA BCG has much better staking than mine does.

Can someone tells me the difference between these and my stock DD one? I ask on another tread and no one was able to give me an answer.

Your DD BCG is probably phosphate? Coated but is chrome lined, the ice arms bcgs he reviewed are Nickle boron coated which is easier to clean and they say nickle boron has natural lubricating proporties, plus its shiney!!!

The DD BCG will be better craftsman ship than the icearms and IMHO i wouldnt upgrade from the DD BCG (i have a DdMK18 and a V4 and the BCGs are top notch)

You want specifics ?

This short answer is that DD is well respected and known to be high quality. Unless you needed another BCG for another build, you are well off with a DD and any of these would be a perceived downgrade.

Easy to clean, so far seems yes, shiny, not so much. Not sure what other NiB offerings are like, but so far my Ice NiB finish has stained. It didn't have any luster to begin with. I was expecting it to look like chrome, but it wasn't. It was a matte grey if anything.
Once I started using it, I found that carbon deposits did indeed wipe off easy, but left behind, the finish would be permanently stained.

Shot another 100 with mine today. I'll be cleaning it later then posting an update of any findings.

Ive had lots of things NIB coated and the only time ive seen staining is whe nthe serface prep was not done right, of the MFG lied about the material spec and the coating was not correct....
I had this alot when we started our company and peopel would quote Alum parts for us, they would say it was 7075 and charge us based on that, but when we had the parts anodized the finish would suck as the product was not 7075 it was 6061 or in one case 2025!!!
may want to to find out what the bolt carrier is made of and the bolt.
Bolts are tought one to finish, thats why most are black oxy finish, as it would well.
we just phosphated some bolt heads and the finish was not as good as we had hoped, but all due to the hardness of the metal.
Our controlded gas nitride with teflon isa great finish, and harder then chrome.
But if the NIB finish is done well it will look and work very well.

I enjoyed looking at the pics. Looking at the bolts I was keen to examine the level of machining and the beveling on the forward edge of locking lugs. I'm proud to note that the beauty with the CM stamp, is the Stag Arms bolt.

That's what 40 years of specialized M16/AR15 manufacturing looks like at the sharp end.

Not a knock on the other brands, but I am proud of Stag Arms quality. They make beautiful parts.

EXACTLY! That is What I think. Smooth machining...proper machining. Is it that hard?

Make the part properly for F's Sake. Don;t sell me crap.

Look at that, The roll pins are not jammed in and squashed. WoW. LOL.
