I have a Sendero and would like to know how much it would cost to do one of these safeties for it. Who in Canada does this? Is it worth the money? And any other comments or recommendations please. May as well do a trigger at the same time? My reason for wanting to know about this modification is, the safety on this gun is very stiff and hard to move (it's the only thing I don't like about this rifle)

Chances are likely then that the safety you have is binding on the stock. Before changing it out, I would pull the barrelled action out of the stock and see if it works better, if so relieve the area that is causing the binding.
Normal 700 safties are easy to move.

Of course, Rick is right. I have had this problem before, check it out before doing anything. On my latest 700 the safety mechanism was actually binding just a little on the trigger guard when the action was tightened. A small file to the trigger guard and the bottom of the safety cured the problem for good.

Not sure I am right, but thought it may be a possibility. I have seen this before.

I had a Gentry Mdl. 70 style 3 pos. safety installed on a LH 700.Afterwards I noticed a increase in the amount of effort to #### rifle. Sent it back to have the Gunsmith take a second look at it, no improvement.Other then that issue I like it and feel it is a better safety then Rem. factory job.

This is common not only on the 700 conversions, but M70s as well.
I believe that a safety that holds the firing pin from moving ie M70 type safeties ARE superior to the trigger blocking type ie Remington.
The drawback is that they are stiffer to operate.
Gentry and Dakota both make good kit if 1 wants to replace the 700 type safety.

I had the work done by Neil Suttill who is located in Meadow Lake Sk. I think it cost about 225.00 with the bulk of the cost being the cost of the Left Hand Gentry safety. A Right hand would be a quite a bit less. Neils ph. no. is 306-236-1910 email nsuttill@sasktel.net

Is it necessary to have this installed by a gunsmith? Could it be done easily at home?
