I am not sure what resources you have on a hand, but I presume from you letter you are loading. My approach to this, and others please feel free to comment is as follows.....
I prepare, neck size and trim a case, but leave the primer out, I then seat the bullet of choice ~ .1 inch depth and measure the OAL. I chamber this in the rifle, and remove it carefully, I always have rifling marks on bullets in both my .308 and .223, I then remeasure the bullet and take this as my max OAL, I subtract 5/1000 and start with that as my working OAL. My results to date with 5 different bullet types including VLD's have been sub .5 moa or better.
I would be interested to hear if others have a better way?
