Anyone here experiment with the through bolt bedding method for the 10/22. Replacing the rear receiver pin with a bolt through the stock. How well did it work? Worth the effort?

probably better off putting on a rear tang if you are doing custom work. i believe there are some kits which will allow you to tap (and drill if needed) a cleaning hole to attach the tang to. after that you need to mill out the stock for the tang and give it some bedding. i have seen it described as moderate difficulty if you have the right tools. there is a bunch of info on it at the rimfire central forums. however, unless you have a complete complete custom build and are running match ammo i highly doubt it will be worth the effort. unless you have a 18"+ heavy barrel droop really wont be an issue anyways. if you want a tighter fit you can just bed the receiver and that will take out any play you have between it and the stock.

in general doing a oversized pillar install, full receiver bedding, and a rear tang install would be the thing you would do to your $1500 gun to shave the last 0.05" off of your groups.

From what I had read a long while ago, I ended up full length bedding my barrel and fully relieving my receiver so it floats. It had to do with hanging the weight of a full heavy barrel from the aluminum receiver and that the action tilts into the stock or something along those lines. Works well for me resulting in a very stable, accurate setup that's not a pain to take out of the stock. Easy to do too...it's about as simple a bedding job as it gets.

I have done it to a couple of guns and I think it is may be the best way to bed a 10/22. I used the Rimfire Technologies kit (http://www.rimfiretechnologies.com/Ruger_10_22_Stage_2_Bedding_Kit_p/abk-002.htm) the first time and did my own the second time. I did it during the initial builds so I can't really say if it improved accuracy over non-bedded but both guns are very accurate so I will at least say it doesn't hurt accuracy. It wasn't all that hard to do, it just required a little patience and thought.
This one has come within 2 rounds of making the 1/2" challenge a couple of times and the flyers were my fault

This one is just stupid accurate for a 12.5" barrel
