This is more of an ergonomics question. I'd like to put a thumbhole stock on a rifle and am wondering if anyone who has one finds them awkward or a problem carrying them in a stalking/standing hunting situation. It'll be on a bolt action 243.
For a bench gun I'd see no problem but you aren't spending 99.9% of your time carrying them like hunting. Maybe I'm wondering too much.

I have just put a stock/pistol grip on my shotgun(slug gun). Little different but not much. I find it easier to carry.

The easiest to carry rifle I ever held was my C7.

I have one on my 30-06 deer rifle, and really like it. It just feels better when aiming, and steadier if you are shooting offhand. The only issue that took some getting used to was getting my hand clear to work the bolt if (or when) I miss on my first shot. Really wasn't as much of an issue during hunting as I thought it might be while overthinking things at the range, and will be looking to buy a muzzleloader with a thumbhole stock this fall.
