Usually I'm bashing the local gun shop for their outrageous prices, but I have to give credit where it's due.

I decided to upgrade the scope on my Accumark .257 Wby Mag And decided that a Vortex Viper 4-12x40 was the way to go.

I checked prices online and with our sponsors here and found that the average price is around $480.
Lo & behold, local shop had the same scope and same price. I picked it up this morning and was NOT charged any GST or PST on the purchase. Saved me almost $60.

Scope is a Vortex Viper 4-12x40 PA with BDC reticle.
 
Got out to the range and dialled it in this afternoon.
I had other firearms along with different scopes. Leupold Rifleman, VXI, VXII, Zeiss Conquest, Bushnell 4200, Bushnell 3200.
I lined everything up on the bench, set the scope magnifications at 6x and went down the line, comparing. I didn't take any of my rifles that have Vortex scopes mounted today. The new Viper looked as clear and bright as anything that I had out there today (better than the 3200, VX I and Rifleman).

I started at 25 meters to get it on paper. 3 shots had the bullet hitting 1" low. Moved out to 100 meters to fine tune. Group was 1" low. Adjusted up to 1/2" high and moved targets out to 200 meters. At 200 meters, group was 1" low. Adjusted up to center and called it good.
The parallax adjustment is great, clicks move impact as advertised (1/4 MOA @ 100 yd). Shot 3 groups at 200 meters. 1.5" - 2.25"

I then used the hash-marks in the scope to shoot @ 500 m. According to the manual, I should have been on at 500 m with the last hash-mark, but with a center hold on 12" high steel plate, bullet went just over the top. Adjusted my hold to hash-mark even with bottom of plate, and center hit 3 for 3.

There was an older gentleman out there with his 2 sons. I let one of the sons shoot my last 3 rounds at 500 m. He hit 2 of 3 (pulled the last shot). He likes the Accumark!

all in all........................I'm impressed with the scope. Not a surprise as I have 3 other Vortex Vipers already.
