in my other post about dirty rounds that i should avoid, thunder bolts came up in all the replys, are they really that bad?im curious because im about to buy a brick of thunder bolts OR winchester dyna point gt
Run away from both. Get something like cci blazer in the 50 round boxes or other cci ammo. For me winchester ammo is never accurate in any gun Ive used it in rem fire or centerfire. Remingotn rimfire ammo I tried was so duty that in 40 rounds if you looked in the barrel you couldn't see daylight from all the crud. Blazer can be has for $20/50 if you look. If you are just going to spray and pray then use whatever floats your boat I guess.
Yes, avoid both. Unlike Dyna Point, Winchester Wildcats seem okay, but in bulk, CCI Blazers or Federal 525 or American Eagle are all much better choices.
I don't have an issue with dynapoints. Out of my savage btvs they group better than cci.
With my su16 and 10/22 dynapoint group as well as AE.
It's not like rem golden bullets. In fact there are alot of post about just how dirty and how many duds are in all rem bulk boxes.
I'm loving m-22 cost compared to everything right now.
i like dyna-point gt's because they were more accurate than sk match out of my norinco jw-15th when i owned one and they run great it my buddys savage mk 2f,so i have no problem with that round, and from my experience they shoot cleaner then blazers
All to be had in several stores here nowadays. I can't mif I ever shot any of them.I have several boxs bought out west years ago but don't think I ever shot any of them. I use Wildcats but I never actually aim them so have no idea if they are anygood.
My GSG 1911 doesn't like Winchester (neither did the range guns, lot of no-fires and stovepipes) but my GSG does like Remington Thunderbolt 40g round nose (no issues yet), in fact I just picked up 6 more boxes. I don't mind cleaning my guns and do so after every range trip, so dirty or not it's no big deal to me. What exactly are the Remington "bucket-o-bullets" compared to the Thunderbolts? I'd like to buy bulk (case of 5000 if I could) but locally the Remington bucket is about the biggest available.
The issue with Thunderbolts leading barrels seems to be limited to semi-autos where the high rate of fire makes the barrel and breach heat up enough to cause leading.
In slower actions such as manual action rifles (bolts, single shots) or revolvers which do not heat up to the same degree there doesn't seem to be a problem.
Thunderbolts are dirtier than a 2 dollar whore. So, if you would bed a 2 dollar whore, maybe you are their market. However, if you do not relish wiping sludge out of every nook and cranny, then I would avoid the thunder bolts.
Stay away From thunderbolts!!
I ran about 100 or so through my 10/22 and noticed my accuracy had completely turned to s**t!!
took it home to clean and couldn't even get a bore snake through it.
there was a sleeve of lead packed into the rifling grooves that was about 3 inches long. took about an hour of pounding a cleaning rod down the bore to get it out.
Not worth the trouble.
Looks like if your running a semi steer clear. If your shooting a bolt a lever or a single go for it. I shoot thunderduds from my T-Bolt and they are lazers and no FTF in 2000 rounds.
CCI blazer is cheap enough if you look around, and isn't too bad. I've fired upwards of 1200 rounds in a couple hours plinking and it has never given me any issues and clean up is a breeze.
just bought a brick of dyna-pionts and a brick of win. 555 and my gun seems to shoot both very well and there really clean, ill take your adivce and leave thunder bolts on the store shelf were they belong
I bought 2 cases of them, when LeBaron had them on, for under 15 bucks a brick.
More than the usual amount of duds, especially in cold weather with pistols.
But even at a 10% dud rate, than leaves me with 9,000rds of cheap shootin'.
SIG Mosquito loves 'em, and my best group with a High Standard Super Citation, was with them.
People should shoot more, and complain less!
