Boy, what a disappointment. First run with this TD in 10mm, what a POS. 3 different mags, two types of ammo (Win 175gr ST, and Hornady 180gr XTP) over 150 rnds not one clean run. FTF, Stovepipes, fail to reset trigger, won't extract live rnds., short stroking. So much for being "reliable". Bottom of bolt being peened and burred by hammer. Really poor overall. Only good thing is it puts 10 Win ST's under an inch @50yrds. :(

Man you should returned that to the cie, there is a problem for sure, mine is over 1K rounds without ONE single malfunction... JP.

Send that thing back for a refund if you can.

I have my friends' carbine on loan. A 9mm SA, the one that takes Uzi (stick) mags.

He managed to get 50rds thru it before it broke the 1st firing pin. He had it replaced by Arms East.

He put another box (~50rds) thru it, and he thought there was "something not right" with it. He dismissed the new pin being broke as the culprit.

He asked me to take a look at it, so we swapped guns. I sent him one of mine, he sent me his Thureon.

Upon recieving it, I immediately field-stripped & cleaned it. The 2nd pin was broke when I got it.

I contacted Steve @ A/E, we chatted & he graciously sent me a replacement firing pin. That was last Tuesday or Wednesday.

I took the Thureon to range on Saturday, put 84 rds thru it before it had a critical-malfunction (trigger was stuck). I had a few stovepipes, all from the Uzi mag (he also has a TD pistol mag).

Took it home, disassembled it again. This time I took the trigger-group out.

Found a piece of the 1st broken pin lodged in the trigger group. (I missed it the 1st time).

So in total, this gun has had less than 200rds thru it. And now 3 broken firing pins !!! All failed the same way, the collar splitting uniformly into 4 sections.

* I told him to call Arms East tomorrow & request either a refund or a new carbine... He bought it last spring/summer though.

** The firing-pin pictured fired 84 rounds since I got it from Steve @ A/E. And is this normal for Thureon buffers to be shimmed with washers ?

I've got about 350 rds through my .45 and have had no issues other than the finish chipping a little at the rear of the ejection port.

I've never seen a buffer like that in a Thureon, this is mine

I know some early models had problems with the tip of the firing pin breaking off but I've never seen one break there.

Do you have an earlier model with the round hand guard or octagonal guard?

I had a 45 acp and it jammed constantly. Didnt matter what ammo. The finish was lousy as well as it starteed to peel badly after 100 rounds. Talked To Elwood Epps and they gave me a full refund. Their service is fantastic. But all my guns from then now.

TD is sending me a new bolt and buffer assembly. Should clear up my issues - Time will tell.

Guys, try putting a fired case in your 10mm and see if the extractor picks it out cleanly please.

The new buffer and bumper is a joke. Way too light, if you thought the peening was bad before just wait until you start using the new buffer. Your best bet is to buy a tungsten buffer, the heavier the better. After months of dealing with thureon I have come to the conclusion they aren't really gun people and have a very poor understanding of blowback action firearms.

What's the problem then?? I know Thureon is top notch when it comes to replacing broken parts, but it would be nice to know what is causing this.

I'd leave it to TD to diagnose, but they will likely change the bolt carrier. I understand they had a few bolt carriers had an issue with the FP bore machining which caused pin breakage on the shoulder. I was told by TD that if a SA rifle (not GA, from an earlier batch) repeatedly breaks pins, to have the customer contact TD explain the problem, and that they can and will rectify the problem. This would be the second one I have heard of.

Just was on the phone with Mr.Fitch from Thureon and the are sending me a new heavier adjustable buffer, will put pictures when i get it... JP.

What was the weight of the new buffer they sent you?

Weight was 289 grams from what I remember. The tungsten buffer and steel spacer is about 425.

So they have yet another design..? Keith hasn't shared this one with me yet....

It's just a weight issue, straight blowback designs can be finicky, once they get the weight of the bolt/buffer right the rifles should run smoothly.

I think they should have done more in house testing instead of using the consumer for R&D
