Howdy folks. I am looking to aquire a "tiger birch" mosin.
I'm not sure if it's the wood - or from cosmoline storage. Not the point. The point is I want one.

How rare are these?

Also if anyone cares to discuss the stripes I'm all ears.

Finn m39 mosin is what I think you are looking for....nice Arctic Birch stocks.

Any Soviet rifle with an arctic birch stock can wind up with the "tiger" pattern or other really interwsting patterns. I have an SKS that looks like its on fire when its out in the sun.

Here's a 1949 SKS with anawesome tiger stock. Sadly, not mine

My brother is a woodworker/craftsman.
He was researching the so called "Artic Birch" that WW2 era Soviet weapons were made of because he is making me a new replacement upper handguard for my SVT-40 :D
He found that the reason the colour comes out like that (tiger striped) is because of the way the sap reacts when the wood is heat hardened before final manufacture.
UFI I guess but interesting.
