A friend of mine passed away a few years back and his widow has a number of his trophy pelts she wants to sell-one being a tiger skin he shot in India.Due to ''political correctness'' she is having dificulty finding out where to list it-any ideas?

I mentioned E-Bay but she said they had declined the ad.The tiger was legally killed years ago.She also has a couple of polar bears, among others. Her husband was a good friend of mine, a surgeon who travelled [and hunted]extensively , the tiger was killed when he was doing volunteer surgery at a clinic in India

You may have to prove it was shot legally, as tiger skins are next to impossible to import to Canada.

the tiger skin[ a head mount male-about 10' long] is already here-been here for at least 30 years,it was one of the last tigers to legally come out of India, and they have the cities documentation

When I was planning my African trip I checked ebay thinking that I could sell some of the lesser trophies to help finance the adventure, but the prices were so low I did not pursue it. Instead I just shot the stuff I really wanted.

Perhaps contacting a taxidermist would be a good place to start. If there was any local interest in rare or unusual trophies they might know.

I would contact Ryan White at Orions Taxidermy in Moose Jaw. I met a fellow here in the city that had a stuffed bengal tiger in his house and asked him how he got it? I guess Orions buys and sells ones that are culled from zoo's around Canada.
He may offer to purchase or have clients that would be interested and have it done legally.

Cheers!!

Why dont you try ww.taxidermy.net They have a selling topic forum, and since taxidermists usualy purchase the items from there, you should get the best price. Make sure if you do go that route, mention that the item is in Canada, and you dont have the Cites permets.

I'll second Ryan at Orion Taxidermy.

Aside from being a top taxidermist, he has a wholsale operation supplying taxidermy related equipment and forms for mounts.
If anyone would know where to sell a hide like that, I would expect him to be as well informed as anyone.

FWIW I was in his shop while he was discussing the mounting of a couple tigers that had been bought from the Toronto Zoo, a couple young males that had no prospects as breeding stock.

cheers
Trev
