A friend bought a Tika hunting rifle. I was surprised by the trigger, it is a single stage at about 4 ounces, that's my guess. For the $$ I would expect a two stage adjustable trigger. Another friend also has a Tika and installed a timney drop in trigger group. I'm curious as to what kind of trigger you prefer, a two stage adjustable, or single stage no adjustment factory set. Thanks

The factory single stage Tikka triggers are adjustable, from approximately 2 - 4 pounds. They are a good trigger as is, and you can get the pull lower with an inexpensive spring change. I have tried several different spring offerings …
If you prefer a two stage aftermarket, the Timney Tikka trigger is NICE 👍, I recently installed one, and I can recommend it, depending on the rifle’s application.
I have never encountered a factory Tikka single stage capable of a 4 ounce pull…

Wouldn't change a Tikka trigger at all except perhaps turnin the adjustment screw to lighten it a bit. And its reliable to the point I wouldn't want to swap it out for anything else to get a nicer pull.

Single stage, double stage, don't really care.

I’m assuming you don’t have a trigger pull gauge ? 4 ounces is extremely light and even with trigger spring changes I haven’t gotten one that low.

Did the rifle come from a previous owner or was it new from the store?

Tikka single stage triggers are some of the best on the market like others (I have three different Tikka rifles.) they are adjustable you just have to take the rifle stock off to get to the Allen bolt.

Also tikka does make a 2 stage trigger in a few select models both right and left hand. A buddy has one and he loves it! You could always try to find one on the used market.

I’ve had aftermarket from Timney and triggertech on other rifles but still prefer my tikka triggers as they work for me!

I see aftermarket trigger groups as a great option if the trigger on your gun isn't good.

Since Tikka triggers ARE good, they need little to nothing. 2lbs. is achievable (or close) with the factory trigger adjustment, and getting that lower with a single spring (YoDave option in my case) is as easy as that type of job can be. The factory Tikka trigger is well-engineered.

Just my opinion. I'm mostly shooting factory loads inside of 200 yards-no need for anything fancier than that and my opinion is that modern Tikkas don't even really need it. In their price range, I don't think there is a nicer factory trigger, it's not just that they're "OK".

My Tikka trigger measured 3.8 pounds and adjusted it to 1.5 pounds. They are awesome triggers!

We have quite a few Tikka's coming and going, in all the years we only had maybe two not so good T3 triggers. One I gave to a friend gunsmith and he fixed it so that it was very good. I have never had an aftermarket trigger on my T3's yet but have dry fired some Bix'n Andi ones and a Triggertech prototype. T3 is good enough for me even with the original spring.

I think Tikka triggers are great. I do lower them all as much as they can, They still break clean and I'm guessing between 1.5-2.5lbs.

I have a Sako with set trigger, I don't really use it for hunting as it's very light (8oz??). But it is nice for longer shots, You touch it it breaks.

I have 2 x T3x rifles, neither trigger has been touched. Whatever has been set at the factory has been good enough for me for hunting.
I'd be OK with a 2 stage for hunting but don't see the need to buy one to replace the factory single stage.

A set trigger is another matter. Have one on a CZ529 in .223. I use it on the bench, but it's way too light to 'set' for hunting IMHO.

When you say "for the $$" I'm not sure what you mean. Most Tikkas hover at about the low/mid price range. That Tikka trigger can be adjusted down to about 2 pounds. For a hunting rifle at that price point, I've got no complaints about their triggers. Of course, better triggers are available. I've got a Bix N Andy target trigger in one of mine (not used for hunting) and it's amazing.

I agree, 4oz is pretty touchy, I have some target rigs set at 8oz and that is extremely light for me, even at the range I'm extremely cautious with that low of a pull.
