Hello thinking of buying a Tikka 223. The reason Tikka is I have 2 now one 22-250 the other 30-06. I reload for both. I really have not reloaded 223, I do know the faster the twist the larger bullet i.e 70 grain etc. will stabilize. My question is will the 8" twist barrel stabilize 40, 45, 50, 52, 53, 55 projectiles. I am trying make a decision as to what twist to by. I must add I really do not want to shoot competitively Just once in awhile fool around at the range and Coyote hunting a bit. I would think Most of my shots will be 75-250 yards. At this point I really see no reason to go heavy barrel. I would much appreciate you comments. :)

I have the Tikka T3 Varmint in .223 stainless steel with the heavy barrel, and let me tell you it is an amazing shooter. Very, very heavy to shoot off hand, but beautiful on top of a Harris bipod.
I've already shot a starting load of 75 gr Hornadys out of it with no trouble, but haven't worked up a perfect load yet for it. Even with just a starting load the accuracy at 110 yards was sub MOA, and amazingly since I zero'ed at 100 yards my calculations told me the mildot adjustment would be 1.3 at 200, but the reality is that it's about a half a mildot, so almost nothing. The thing shoots LASER BEAMS! It is the most awesome rifle I've come across and it makes me grin every time I shoot it.
If you plan on just setting up in one spot and waiting for the coyotes, go for the heavy barrel. If you want to march all over the world with it you are probably right in not getting it... but the accuracy of that heavy barrel with the 1 in 8 twist is outrageous!

1:8 is a better choice, although you might find it is not as good with the lightest bullets. At least with the 1:8 you have the option of switching to some of the excellent heavier bullets out there too. There is no reason why that rifle won't make you giggle using heavy bullets and shooting beyond 600 metres.

I'm a big fan of Tikka accuracy. (Warning: Incoming Savage vs. Remington trash talk) :)

When you go to buy it whatever you do, don't look at the Tactical version, or you'll find yourself spending another $700 on it! lol

Well, it seems non of these Tikka varmit 223 exist in Canada? I've been told there is at least 35 on back order. Anyone know anything different?

I purchesed a tikka 223 varmit with set triger last spring the best it would group was 2" . There was no problem returning it,tikka admitted having some problems .I have not seen one on the shelf sinse. I would think they are still having problems

I gotta say this sounds like :bsFlag: to me.

I've seen tons of Tikka's around and the 1/8 twist .223's sell fast so that's about the only reason they are not on the shelf.

Could be you got a lemon as it happens but to say they are having problems? Like what?

As for the set trigger, they seem to have not been imported for many years. Could have changed recently but not to my knowledge.

What side of the border are you on?
