Hey

I just picked up a Tikka.243 and was gonna either trade it for a Tikka 6.5 PRC , or do a barrel swap.
I have lots off reloading gear for 6.5 PRC

So, if end up doing a barrel swap, what would a good barrel for target shooting( 40 rnds per sitting shooting fast)
Looking to keep the gun around 9 /10 lbs scoped.

Thanks

You don't need to open up the bolt, PR Precision (vendor) makes Tikka bolts with magnum bolt faces.
The issue is the cost of a new bolt and custom barrel would put you close to the cost of a new 6.5 PRC CTR.

As for barrels, you're asking alot to have something lightweight that can survive 40 rounds of rapid fire 6.5 PRC. Maybe a Proof or other carbon wrapped barrel will hold up? My bigger cartridges have steel barrels from medium palma to MTU, and they get rather warm after only 5 rounds. I've shot 40-50rds in a single range day, but it takes a few hours. And I use barrel coolers for 10-15 minutes between groups to speed up the cooling.
I have a 6.5 creed CTR that I've put 30-50 rounds through on a range day, it heats up a bit quicker than the heavier barrels. Probably takes 2-2.5 hours to get through that many, including cooling time. The PRC runs more powder, and would get hotter, quicker. That being said, my Tikka barrels don't walk when hot, and don't open up very much either.

There’s an action and CFW barrel in the precision EE , that really caught my eye, but $2000 though.
I have a browning xbolt that I don’t really want, so I could sell both.
As for a CFW barrel, I’d sure like one but they’re like $1600 all in.

I think another Tikka TX3 is my best option.
I had one already and sold it .. lol
Bad move.
