looking for opinions on these two rifles and the brand itself. The rifle will be used for whitetail up to moose. The model is a Tikka T3 laminate/stainless. I was looking st a Ruger of the same style but do not like the floorplate would much rather have a drop out clip. I have not heard much about Tikka nobody in my area shoots one. Thanks for your comments.

I have a T-3 S/S and I really like the rifle. The +s about the T-3 are that they are accurate right out of the box. I've never heard of a new T-3 owner complaining about not being able to get their rifle to shoot. The trigger is very good and easily adjustable, and the action is extremely smooth. You may already know this, but Tikkas are made by Sako.

The main complaint that I hear is that there are many plastic parts on the rifle, including the trigger guard, magazine, and bolt shroud. The magazine is actually quite strong, I doubt there would ever be any issues with it, other than spare magazines are outrageously expensive for a piece of plastic. The T-3 also uses the same size of action for all calibres, so a .223 would have the same action size (with a bolt stop) as a .300 WM.

I don't think that you could go wrong with either the .30-06 or .300 WSM for the game you intend to hunt.

I second that... T-3's are the best shooters out of the box I have found yet.
The so-called plastic is actually fibreglass reinforced copolymer and is extremely tough and very light.
You will not find many t-3 owners who can find bad things to say about them.

I've handled three different T3 stainless Lites, and they're pretty decent rifles.

I just cant get over the plastic parts though, they cheapen the feel and look of what *could* of been a very fine rifle alot.

Regardless, they shoot and kill well. Both the 30-06 and the 300 WSM would be great choices for hunting anythuing in Canada.

I have 2 Tikka T3 270WSM in laminate stainless( last year the fiance took over the 1st rifle so I got another for me!). I waited an extra year for the LS over the stainless. Awesome shooters. 140gr. Accubonds all the way. The one rifle shoots factory Winchester Supremes (wife's) and mine are reloaded using one of BigRedd's recipe, and now I'm trying 140gr. TSX Barnes.

For the 300WSM, I would reccomend 180gr. Accubonds. In my Sako m75 SS 300WM, I have shot many moose, elk and deer in Alberta, using first the Failsafes and Partition Golds, and now the Accubonds. All were the factory Winchester Supreme Ammo, but now I'm reloading, mostly with 180gr. bullets.

With the 300WSM, you will have better ballistics and more energy at a further distance than the 30-06. Both are good calibers to do the job, I just prefer the 300WM or WSM over the -06.

Good luck in your purchase. I will reccomend Tikka Optilock Bases & Rings, and the Leupold VX3 3.5x10x40 with the BC reticle.
PM me your email address and I'll email you pics of my rifles.

If you do not like the platic clip, look at the Sako m75 SS or Grey Wolf. Tikka (made by Sako) used the plastic to keep the costs down. I do not like the plastic clip, but for your money, the Tikka T3 LS is a great buy. The money you save over a Sako, you can put into your scope. If money not an issue.....go for the Sako model 75 Grey Wolf or SS.

Im from Saskatchewan and have owned 2 Tikka's, actually there's a nice .270 wsm for sale in Moose Jaw right now. I know I taked w/ a number of guys at the local gunshows and they are all happy w/ them.
I would definatley go w/ a 300 wsm over a 30-06, its just performs alot better shooting the same bullet. The wsm brass is reasonable and have even seen it being sold as once fired for real cheap.

Cheers!!

The fit if the stock's is terrible for me, there is not enough drop in the stock, only about 1/3 of the buttpad is actually touching my shulder when I mount the gun. I figured this would hurt with a 6lb '3oz" 300 WSM so I bought a browning classic hunter, it weighs 6oz more but the montecarlo style stock fits me like a glove.
Tikka's are very accurate rifles, my son shoots a 695 synthetic in 270 and it's very accurate, I have a couple of Sakos, triggers are excellent in both brancds, my other beef with Tikk'a is the magazine that can't be toploaded IMHO a crappy design. Every time you chamber a round you have to remove the clip to reload it.

I own a T3 lite s/s comp stock in 300WSM I just love the feel and handling. For the price, you can't go wrong. It's true, there are alot of plastic parts, but that's the beauty of plastic. It's now just as strong as steel, and it doesn't rust. Not to mention how much less it weighs than steel. Over the years, if anything is going to hinder a rifles performance, it'll be rust, and weather warping. Can't happen to a T-3 Lite. Good luck on your shopping.

One of my hunting partners has a t-3 in 25-06 and a friend has one in 300wsm.Both have proven to be very accurate with a variety of loads. They do have some plastic parts but I think that they are a great rifle for the price.Actually the t-3 varmint with the added cheek piece fits me better than the standard t-3.

I also have two T3's A .300 stainless and a .243 laminated stainless. my paper punching is overlapping holes... no complaints.

I find my T3 to be a tack driver. I have it in 30-06 and its a great caliber. Shot my first deer with it last year. The results speak for themselves :)

Claude

PS I shot it in the ass (what could I do it was running LOL)

Tikka

Hi there. I have a NIB Whitetail Trapper rifle 6.5 * 55 with the wood stock M695 model with the Tikka Optilock rings and it is a great rifle. It handles nice and fits just right and boy does it shoot. I have handled the T3's at Del Selins Guns and they also seem like nice shooters. Good Moose medicine around here in the Okanogan. Regards

thanks everybody for your opinions. I think I'm gonna go with the 300wsm.

Before you do, the 300WSM is a bit of a step up in recoil over the 30-06.

If you are a new shooter, this is a relaly important consideration.

I own a 300WSM, and I will tell you right now that the 30-06 is probbaly more *practical* than a 300WSM.

Ammo is cheaper, more available, and the recoil is much less.

The 300WSM is a cool cartridge, it's great, but you don't really start to see any advantage until out past 300 yards.

I have a Tikka laminated stainless in 6.5 and I love it. It is easily the most accurate of my hunting rifles. I used to be a diehard Remington fan but no more. It is my experience that you have to work at making a Rem shoot well but the Tikka was good to go right out of the box. After breaking in the barrel I could shoot less than MOA (3 shots prone off a sandbag). I only expect it to get better with more rounds through it.
