Just wanted some basic info for my new rifle. I have loaded quite a few rounds for my 30-06 but wanted a head start on my 300. With that said, I am hunting medium to large game. What do you guys think i should load. I also have a fair amount of imr4350 powder left and yes i know i need magnum primers. I also have several books, but just want some real opinions. Thanks.......

My fav 300 win mag load is a 168 gr TSX, 75 grs of reloder 22, fed magnum primer and remington brass. It is just under 3200 fps, very flat, hits very hard. I've had excellent results on moose, wildebeest, gemsbuck, Kudu and a whole bunch of deer sized game.

handloading questions like this get asked all the time. Basically, you have to do your homework; using someone else's loads in your gun is probably not going to get you the best possible accuracy and could be downright dangerous.

I'm not sure what we can tell you that your load manual won't. RL-19, RL-22, 4350, 4831 and others have all been used successfully with bullets in the 150-220 grain range. I favour heavy bullets (I'm not a speed freak) and hodgdon powders as they're the most available around here.

Id go with 165/168 TSX, RL22 or H4831sc - similar load to Martinbns

I load IMR 4350 with 168 tsx for my girlfriends dad, he uses it on elk, deer, etc and it works well. 3150 fps I think, and accurate.

One thing to consider if you intend to load bullets in the 200 gr range is the .300 Winchester's short neck. Slow burning powder tends to use up much of the capacity, so try to seat the bullet as long as the lead of your rifle's chamber or the length of your magazine will allow. The idea is to minimize the amount of bullet shank that will take up valuable powder space.

Thanks for the advice. I knew there were more people on here with an opinion :D

Books are a great starting point but shooters have way more to offer than books.
