Personally I like side by sides better then over unders but I picked up a Valmet 412 which was made in 1982, it has a set of 12 gauge barrels and a set of 9.3 X 74 barrels. I have shot the rifle barrels and it handles factory ammo good. I haven't started to reload for it but I don't see any problems. The gun is well made and the fit and finish is good. I do not like the air gap in between the rifle barrels but for the price of the guns they are a good buy and should make a good hunting gun in my opinon.

The Valmet was a 412 as well, and they had an earlier version which didn't have a numerical name. I had one for quite a while, finally traded it off as I couldn't find a set of 9.3x74R barrels for it. It was a good gun, a little heavy, but had a great triger, crisp and very light. FWIW - dan

Yes they are in the retail price range of $2,000.00 Marocchi or something like that....

412 and 412S are design changes from the no model number version.

Here is a Brno 304 Combination gun with extra barrel set. Shown on the rifle is a 7x57R (7mm Mauser but rimmed) top barrel and 12ga (great for slugs) bottom barrel - the ultimate hunting gun and 12ga 2 3/4 double barrel o/u set (Modified/IM) for clays etc. Trigger system is a two trigger system. Front trigger has hair trigger feature (or regular) while rear trigger will fire both barrels if pulled twice.

I always liked combination guns. If your worried about branches deflecting your rifle shot, use the slug! Take one gun big game and small game hunting. Switch between barrels easily.
