Hello Gentlemen,

I'm looking at purchasing a blued, synthetic Tikka 595 (aka whitetail hunter) in .243win (1:10 twist regular barrel). This rifle has been around the block, so to speak. Barrel has a couple of cosmetic blemishes as does the stock - basically a rifle that was actually used for hunting. Functionality-wise though it is in top notch condition. Excellent bore, clean crown, little to no throat erosion and a nice, crisp trigger. No apparent rust, etc. No extras, just the bare-bone rifle.
So now for the big question: what would you consider to be the fair value of this rifle? Seller is asking $600 (Non-CGN).
Thanks for any input. I've heard they are much nicer than what is available from Tikka currently. Just trying to make sure that I’m not getting hosed on this one!

If the rifle is "experienced" the wear and tear needs to be reflected in the price you pay, even if the rifle has been cared for and is mechanically sound. Trouble is very often beat up on the outside equals beat up on the inside. I think $600.00 is top dollar for what was arguably a $700.00 rifle when new. Use your best discretion, but in the condition you describe this rifle, $450.00 might be more like it.

Thanks for some words of common sense. I had my hesitations (otherwise I wouldn't bother you guys), and I think I was trying to get someone to either talk me into or out of it (I know - not the most sensible way of approaching purchases). 595s don't come up for sale in my neck of the woods all that often, but this one sounds like a pass for me.

I have the very same rifle except with a walnut stock. Very accurate rifle that I would not sell unless I was made an offer that I could not refuse :D. I would say $450-$475 at most for the rifle you are looking at.

I would have to say in the 500.00 dollar range as well...

I paid 750.00 for a lightly used M695 in 25/06 but it also came with a brand new Bushnell Elite 3200 3-9x40 scope, reloading dies, and rings. This gun was in great shape:D

The M695's are great guns though and if you really want one they are getting harder to find so I guess it depends on how much do you really wnat it:)

Id pass....the rifle is overpriced by about $150. And considering CGN and the ease of shipping across Canada, chances are you will find a better condition rifle on CGN for less $. My lousy 2 cents worth.....

I think $600 is to much. From time to time I have seen sales on new ons for about that price. I woldn't pay over $500 for it. Just my opinion though.

Dave.

With new T-3 Lite's going for around $ 675 to $ 700, something at
$ 475 - $ 500 would be more realistic. i.e.' about 70 percent of
it's new value, befrore taxes. Don't forget ... it's now a discontinued
model - two Tikka generations past !

I prefer Boomer's assessment. The M595 is only one generation past, I'd take it hands down over the T3. So what if it's discontinued....so is the pre-64 model 70.

I bought the same rifle in the same caliber a few years ago at Ellwood Epps. Mine has the walnut stock and is in mint condition. I paid $550.00 and it came with a 3-9 Bushnel Trophy scope. It is probably the most accurate rifle I own.

I picked up a minty Tikka 595 blued/synthetic .308 Win with rings for $450 at a gunshow last year. Thought that was fairly exceptional given the great reputation of that rifle. Seller was motivated to "move" it though. I did a double take when I saw the price. Glad I picked it up first as it wouldn't have lasted long at that price... Anyway, I'd say tops you want to pay ~ $500 for the one you are asking about . ;)
