Guys, a mate of mine has a sweet tikka t3x superlight , 7mm rem mag.... he has been shooting a load which worked fine for his 500m hunting but then something has changed..

id like to post some info an see what you legends on CGN can suggest he try next, or perhaps know the issue.

original load 70gr "ar2225" RETUMBO Accubond Long Range 168 gr..... Norma brass and fed 215 primers.

he had some ES an thought Neck tension, so annealed and it continued-
annealed target with 6x fired brass

off bags at a range, can put 3 x 300wsm touching at times, so not the shooter-- good zeiss or swarvo something expensive scope,

aparently rifle doesnt like 2217--

tried new brass, annealed brass, old brass etc......

what do you blokes think may be goin on here?

thanks alotly

RE the numbers via chrono,,,, is he chasing numbers or confusing numbers with whats goin on down range EG- does 40 ES really matter a ####.? how do i explain this lol

To me it looks like a bedding or barrel issue. I'm assuming the single hole is the first shot fired. That suggests that the poi is changing once the barrel warms up.

Have your buddy shoot one round, set the rifle aside for 15-20 mins until the barrel is completely cold, then fire one shot, and repeat. If the bullets all pile into the same group, then you know it's either bedding or stress in the barrel that's causing a shift in point of impact.

How many rounds down the tube? Throat erosion could have pushed the load out of the node.
The #s on the last round of load dev look decent, was there any seating depth testing done afterwards?

seat the bullets 5 or 10 thou longer and replace the recoil lug, finally bent the factory one and it's gone weird, throat has burnt forward and now it's time to chase it with the bullet, ES of 40 is nothing to be alarmed about, thats still better then most off the shelf factory ammo.

its a very new gun so not many rounds down tube for throat erosion!

some great things to look at-

Seating hasnt been changed as of yet- he was goin to look at that next, so it was interesting RE first post.

good idea one shot real cool, one shot, he is always 'rushed' for time , or the range is closing or some excuse ive picked up, they are a pencil thin barrel, so wouldn take much to heat up an potentially really spray.// ana 7 mag is creating a bit of heat im sure.

good info thanks alot!!

he pulled it Apart since i sent all the replies his way..
he hit me back today an said it was pulled completely apart an he found the action screw at 25 an not 50/55 wher he likes it, loctite an is hittin the range tomorrow to see if that fixeded it.

thanks you guys i surely appreciate it

Oil on the bedding/receiver surfaces, bent recoil key, oil under his scope mounts, scope piling up, damaged crown.

Check those culprits in that order.

Looks like seating depth issue...did he happen to load a different lot of the same bullet?

If hes measuring over all length and not ogive to base there could be a huge difference from lot to lot for bullet jump.

So i believe we have had a Win here guys. I just wanna take the moment to thank you all.
my plan was instead of hearing about the range reports each weekend, an me spending time searching forums for a problem on a gun that i wont ever shoot yeah, So i said gimme all ya details, tell me whats it is doing, an my Expert legendary Mates on CGN will hit me back withn a few days..............

Fark me dead.

Look at the above... so much help an information. You guys NAILD it.

oh whats that, .10 thou longer seat.............. aka chase the lands. yeah you mentioned it.
shot half inch group an back to where he wants it.

story goes- new gun, barrel apparently sped up. so backed off load... nek minit the above flyers.... you guessed it. i assume new throat wore.... new seating depth... wollah
