Tikka 7mm factory ammo

Hi I just got a tikka 7mm hunter. Just wondering what factory ammo everyone is using and having good luck with.

Tikkas shoot well with most types of ammo, so I would just focus on buying something appropriate for the game. Two or three different types should be plenty, I usually buy something inexpensive for sight-in and try a couple others while it's on the bench. Remington Core-lokt and Federal "blue box" Classic are both good to try out as a cheaper option to get on paper and and break in the barrel.

In my 30-06 T3x Battue I run nothing but 180 grain Sako Super Hammerhead ammo. It consistently shoots under an inch and I'm really happy with it.

That said, I also run a stainless T3 in 7mm Remington magnum and that gun gets nothing but 150 grain Remington Core-Lokt ammo. Why do I choose this stuff over available Sako ammunition offerings for this particular rifle? Well, it's very, very accurate in that rifle. Consistently under an inch and often under half an inch. Also, because Stoeger only seems to import the 170 grain Hammerhead round from Sako's ammunition lineup and that's a heavier bullet than I want to shoot in a 7mm RM. If they were willing to import Sako's 150 grain Arrowhead 2 7mm RM ammunition I'd likely have a few hundred rounds of the stuff on hand at any given time. But since stoeger seems unwilling to bring it in, I'll stick to the core-lokt stuff for now.

It should shoot anything between 140gn and 160gn rather well. I haven't bothered with anything other than 150 and 160 grain though...all handloads.

While every rifle is a law unto itself as far as accuracy, the Federal 'Blue Box' power shok and Fusion loads have shot very well in quite a few of my rifles. My 7 mag shoots both the Federal and Remington 175 gr loads very well, consistently MOA or a bit under. My Tikka 243 shoots the Fusion 95 gr load so consistently well, I don't even bother reloading for it any more. Same with my Marlin 30-30, I just buy the Fed 170 gr load and call it a day.

Another load worth trying is the Hornady American Whitetail 154 gr. The 154 gr Interlock is a classic bullet that performs well in many rifles.

I stopped in at my local Canadian Tire the other day. I needed to pick up a few things but no matter what I'm there for, I always try to make at least one pass down the ammunition aisle to see what's there.

Low and behold, some new Sako ammo had recently arrived. I quickly scanned through the few dozen boxes thinking that there wouldn't be anything in there that I need right now. About half way through, i noticed that there were 6 boxes of 150 grain Gamehead 7mm Remington Magnum ammo there. I hemmed and hawed and walked away from it thinking it was to expensive. I got half way to the cash only to remember that Sako has a rebate on right now for their ammo. 10$ back on every box. So I turned right around and went back and bought all 6 boxes. At 25$/box of ten, it comes out to just over 15$ per box after the rebate. Pretty hard for me to pass that up.

I'm going to give it a try sometime this coming week and if it's anywhere near as good as the Remington ammo is in my rifle, I might give it a try for moose season this year. We'll see.
